2 Peter Chapter 1

Good Morning y’all.  It’s Monday!!! And we are starting a new book…yaaay. We begin our journey into 2 Peter. Looking at Chapter 1 today.

Here we go 🙂

S – Scriptures that stood out for me

2 Peter 1:3 NIV : His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:19 MSG : We couldn’t be more sure of what we saw and heard— God’s glory, God’s voice. The prophetic Word was confirmed to us. You’ll do well to keep focusing on it. It’s the one light you have in a dark time as you wait for daybreak and the rising of the Morning Star in your hearts.

O – Observations

O1 – We have everything we need to live a godly life through God’s power that’s at work in us. All we need to do is first BELIEVE that we have all we need to run this race.  Secondly we need to get deeper and intimate with the one who called us to this new way of life – Jesus. Need to study God’s word,find the Instructions and be about doing them.There is no use hearing the word of God and not taking action. Gods word is living! Get tapping 🙂

O2 – God desires for us to mature in him and get to know him better. He doesn’t want  us to remain stagnant. Hence the admonition in v5-8.  We need to have the following attributes: faith, goodness, knowledge, self control,  endurance,  godliness, kindness and love. When we have those traits in us, we become more productive and effective for God.

O3 – Remaining stagnant in our walk with God is not an option

O4 – We must keep on paying attention and giving ourselves to the word. The word is God… so the more we study, the more of Him we are taking in and we will blossom and flourish as we do this.

05 – God’s word brings illumination where there is darkness…For any situation we are facing, there are scriptures in the bible to guide us, instruct us, comfort us and see us through the situation. The message version says God’s word is “the one light you have in a dark time as you wait for daybreak and the rising of the morning star in your hearts”.

A – Application

A1 – choose one or 2 of the attributes listed in v 5-8  and make a Conscious effort to practice it today. Be very pratical and set goals that are reasonable and dont give up even if you mess up. Keep trying 🙂

For me I will be  practicing self control by Gods grace. Diffucult times at work currently and a lot of gossiping and bad mouthing senior managers…but today im gonna exercise self control and restrain my tongue from joining the gossip or i walk away from the conversation immediately God helping me. (will let you know how i get on in my post tomorrow :). Pray for me i must pass this test 🙂 )

P – Prayer

Dear Lord thank you for today and for the opportunity to learn at your feet. Thank you for all the promises and blessings that is ours through Jesus. Thank you for we know we already have all we need to run this race. Give us grace to develop  and practice the traits you require of us. May your grace and peace be ours in full measure today and always. We love you Lord. All this we ask and believe we have received In Jesus Name.

1 Peter Chapter 5

Happy Sunday y’all. We made it to the last chapter in 1 Peter :).  We thank God for his grace.

We looking at Chapter 5

Here we go 🙂

S – Scriptures that stood out for me

1 Peter 5:6-7 CEVUS06 : Be humble in the presence of God’s mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes.  God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.

1 Peter 5:10-11 NLT: In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.

O – Observations
O1- Don’t be a leader or Elder for personal gains or ambitions. God expects you to serve those in ur care and to do it willingly because you want to serve God.
O2 -Leaders should lead by example and not by mere words. Your followers should be able to see the words you preach reflected in your life.
O3 – God don’t like Pride. We need to be humble and submissive to one another. It’s a sign of respect/reverence for God. One of the definition of humble according to the free dictionary is to be “marked by meekness or modesty in behaviour, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful.”
O4 – Being humble doesn’t mean being weak. If we continue to humble ourselves, God will lift us up at the right time.
O5 – God is always ready to help carry our burdens and cares but there is a DOING on our part which is to CAST those cares to him. To Cast according to the free dictionary is “to Throw”, “turn or direct”.  In essence God is asking us to throw or turn or direct all our cares to him. He never intended for us to carry the burdens. Whatever you are going through today remember God is ever present and He is waiting for you to make that step and throw your cares onto him. Pray and give it all to him. You might not feel the burden disappear instantly but one assurance you have is that God is in control and He never fails and He cares for you.

Pride is one of the things that stop people from casting because you think you don’t need anyone and can handle your issues yourself. Word of advice- better to humble yourself before God than God humbling you!

O6 – Devil is not sitting idle so we too can’t afford to sit idle else we will be devoured by Him. We need to be on guard at all times.
O7- Our suffering is not forever! It’s only for a little while and after we come out of it God promises to restore, support and strengthen us. To place us on a firm foundation. Be encouraged 🙂
O8 – My fav one for the day 🙂 God has ALL Power!!! There is nothing that is too powerful for him. He can handle ALL situations (yep that’s my daddy 🙂 )

A – Application
A1) Be humble and not think too highly of ourselves as we go about our day
A2) Consciously throw all our cares, burdens and worries to God today. Let’s take it to God first before we take it to Man.
A3) Remind ourselves God has all Power and can handle whatever comes our way.

P – Prayer
Dear Lord we thank you for this day and for helping us through the book of 1 Peter.  Thank you for all we have learnt. We pray you help us apply them to our lives. Help us today to be humble in our dealings and to remember to cast our cares to you because you care for us deeply. Thank you  for we know you are ALL powerful and no situation is beyond your reach. Thank you once again. We love you loads.  All this we ask in Jesus Name.  Amen.
