Proverbs 26 – So you think you are wise…

Good afternoon y’all. Happy Monday πŸ™‚
Today, we continue our study of the book of Proverbs. We are in chapter 26.

Verse 12 of this chapter really caught my attention this morning. Pride is such a dangerous thing to have in ones life.

I pray as we read, the Holy spirit will reveal to us those areas where pride is still at work in our lives.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There  is more hope for a fool than for him” (V12 NKJV) .

Are we wise in our own eyes? Do we believe we have ‘arrived’ or know it all, that we start to ignore God? Do we trust in our strength and wealth?

All of the above is pride in all of its glorification!!! Pride is what makes a man believe he knows it all and doesn’t need God. It’s such a dangerous thing to think you have ‘arrived’ or know it all, to the extent you stop taking corrections from people and even from God!

When we become careless and allow pride full reign in our lives, God himself will have to humble us and oh it’s such a painful experience to be humbled by God. Ask king Nebucadnezzer in the book of Daniel and Pharaoh in the book of Exodus. I’m sure they would both tell us they wish they weren’t proud and defiant against God. One was given a second chance, the other never got a chance to repent; he died in his pride and arrogance.

Scripture tells us that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).

Friends, let’s respect ourselves and understand our limitations. We cant make it through this christian race without Gods help and direction. That’s why proverbs 3: 5-7 tells us to trust in the Lord and not lean on our own understanding

“With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. Don’t ever think that you are wise enough, but respect the Lord and stay away from evil” (Pro 3:5-7 CEVUS06).

No matter how much money or how successful we are or how knowledgeable we are, never let us get too proud or reject instruction from God. It is a very dangerous thing to get to this point.

Humility is very important. Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:18 says:

“Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise” (NKJV).

That is for us to be wise, we must first learn to humble ourselves and admit we know nothing; that we are completely clueless. Then God can begin to teach us and fill us with His wisdom.

I will leave us with few scriptures on humility

“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom” (Pro 11: 2 NLT).

“Pride leads to destruction; humility leads to honor” (Pro 18:12 CEVUS06).

“True humility and fear of the lord lead to riches, honor, and long life”.(Pro 22: 4 NLT).

“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3:13 NLT).

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6 NLT).

“Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion” (Rom 12:16 NKJV).

I pray God will remove pride from our lives and fill us with the spirit of humility. Amen.

Proverbs 25: Some more wise sayings…

Good evening y’all. Today we are studied chapter 25 of Proverbs.

Proverbs 25: 4

Silver must be purified before it can be used to make something of value”.(CEVUS06).

Just like silver has to be purified before it can be used, so we also have to be purified by God so we can be useful vessels in His hands.

2 Tim 2:20-21 says: “In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work” (NLT).

Proverbs 25:9 -10

When you and someone else can’t get along, don’t gossip about it.Β  Others will find out, and your reputation will then be ruined” (CEVUS06).

Ok, I’m double covering my eyes. This is deeeeeeep. So guilty of this offense. If someone hurts me, I’m gonna tell as many people about it as i can. I’ve never really thought about it as gossip but reading this verse has got me rethinking…this might actually be gossip! what’s the motive behind going round telling everyone about it?

Proverbs 25:28

Losing self-control leaves you as helpless as a city without a wall” (CEVUS06).

Self control is very key. That’s why it’s one of the fruit of the spirit. If we don’t have self control, we are exposed. Anything is allowed to come in and go as they like.

May we all be vessels unto honour in the hands of God. With His help, may we learn to use our mouth wisely to spread the gospel and not gossip; and to exercise self control.
