Deuteronomy 5 & 6 – Obedience !!!

Good afternoon y’all. Welcome to week 2 of our Deuteronomy study πŸ™‚

Today i’m doing a combined blog on chapter 5 and 6.

One key thing I picked from both chapters is that obedience is paramount to our success here on earth and to living a life that is pleasing to God.

Moses told the Israelites in chapter 5 to be careful to do all that God had commanded them. They were to obey completely, nothing like partial obedience. He also highlights the consequences of their choices…if they obey, they will enjoy the land and if they do not obey, they will loose the land.

So Moses told the people, β€œYou must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail. Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy”. (Deut 5: 32-33 NLT)

In chapter 6, he reminds them again that obedience to God will result in them enjoying life in abundance and that God should be their sole focus and priority. They are to love him not just in words but by their actions – obedience.

Β β€œListen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.Β  And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today”. (Deut 6: 4-6 NLT)

Pleasing and obeying God should be at the forefront of all that we do. It should be what drives us and guides our daily life.

Truth is, if we are obedient and willing, we will eat of the good of the land. Its that simple, yet its something that most of us struggle with.

I’ve come to realize that obedience is not for God’s benefit, rather it’s for ours. It doesn’t do anything for Him, and whether we obey or not, it doesn’t diminish who He is as God. However, due to His love for us, and the fact that He wants the best for us, He gives instructions to guide and help us live the abundant life that He has for us.

God is very loving and gracious because He just doesn’t dish out instructions to us and leave us to figure out how to obey. No, He always supplies the grace to obey. We have the Holy Spirit, who is our Helper and Teacher. Scripture says, God has given us everything we need to live a godly life, which implies that we have, within us, all that we need to live an obedient life.

Jesus said if you love me you will obey my commands. This tells me that our obedience is a reflection of our love for God.

How deep is your love for God? Deep enough to obey and love Him wholeheartedly?

As we go about our day, let’s trust God to help us live obedient lives. We can’t obey if we don’t know what we ought to be doing.Β  So let’s also ask God to reveal His plan for us so we can obey Him; and for grace to love Him more because when we love Him, we will obey Him unconditionally.

Deuteronomy 3 – Keep Calm! God’s got your back…

Good evening y’all. Today, we continue our study on Deuteronomy. We are in chapter 3.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

Do not be afraid of the nations there, for the Lord your God will fight for you. (NLT)

“So don’t be afraid! Wherever you go, the Lord will fight on your side and help you destroy your enemies”. (CEVUS)

“Don’t be afraid of them. God, your Godβ€”he’s fighting for you”. (MSG)

God is a mighty warrior; great in battle. He has never lost a battle before πŸ™‚

No matter what situation or challenge we find ourselves today, the truth is, our God is fighting for us and will surely deliver us. There is no battle too strong for Him. Exodus 15: 3 says: “The LORD is a warrior; Yahweh is his name!”

Its time to stop fretting, rather let’s learn to rest in His love knowing He is more than able.

Zephaniah 3: 17 says: The Lord your God wins victory after victory and is always with you. He celebrates and sings because of you, and he will refresh your life with his love.” (CEVUS)

Heb 13: 6 says: “So we can say with confidence, β€œThe Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? (NLT)

God has got our back. Our victory is assured πŸ™‚ Hallelujah!!!

Have a blessed evening πŸ™‚
