Psalms 10

Good morning y’all. Today we looking at Psalm 10. In the psalm, we see David asking God why He is far from him and avoiding him especially now that he is in trouble. He describes the folly of the wicked man. He proceeds to ask God for help and punishment for the wicked.

Psalms 10:1 CEVUS06 : Why are you far away, Lord? Why do you hide yourself when I am in trouble?

From this verse we can sense David was feeling dejected and alone. He felt God was far off from him and avoiding him. As believers, there are times when we too find ourselves in the same situation like David. Times when we feel alone and dejected. Times when we pray and feel our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling and that God has forgotten us.

Just because we feel somehow doesn’t necessary mean what we feel is true and  because God is not doing what we expect at the time we expect it, doesn’t mean He is far away. The truth is that God never leaves us, He is always there for us. Psalms 46:1 says He is a present help in time of trouble.

What we know to be true should not be based on how we feel, rather based on the truth in Gods word. God has not forgotten us, He knows our name and address. Lets Keep praising and trusting him inspite of our feelings.

Psalms 10:2-11 CEVUS06: Proud and brutal people hunt down the poor. But let them get caught by their own evil plans!  The wicked brag about their deepest desires. Those greedy people hate and curse you, Lord.  The wicked are too proud to turn to you or even think about you.  They are always successful, though they can’t understand your teachings, and they keep sneering at their enemies.  In their hearts they say, “Nothing can hurt us! We’ll always be happy and free from trouble.”    They curse and tell lies, and all they talk about is how to be cruel or how to do wrong.  They hide outside villages, waiting to strike and murder some innocent victim.  They are hungry lions hiding in the bushes, hoping to catch some helpless passerby. They trap the poor in nets and drag them away.  They crouch down and wait to grab a victim.  They say, “God can’t see! He’s got on a blindfold.”

Here, David is describing the wicked man. They are proud and brutal. They deceive themselves by saying there is no God. They boast in themselves and are too proud to turn to God or even think of him. They believe they can do whatever they please and God wont call them out or punish them.

Let’s examine ourselves today. Do we exhibit any of these traits? Are we too proud to give God time of the day and do we feel we don’t need him? Are we boasting in our strength and ability as opposed to boasting in God?

Lets ask God for forgiveness and turn back to him in all sincerity of heart.

Psalms 10:12 CEVUS06: Do something, Lord God, and use your powerful arm to help those in need.

David believes God is strong and powerful enough to defeat the wicked and at the same time help those who are in need. Whatever it is we are going through today, God is powerful enough to do something about it and turn it around for our good. Be encouraged :). Zephaniah 3:17 says “For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Psalms 10:14 CEVUS06: But you see the trouble and the distress, and you will do something. The poor can count on you, and so can orphans.

God sees our pain and our trouble. He is aware of all that we are going through.
Psalm 34:17 says “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles“.

Let’s cry out to God today and He will surely answer us.

Psalms 10:16 CEVUS06: Our Lord, you will always rule, but every godless nation will vanish from the earth.

God reigns forever and ever. His Kingdom is everlasting and He does as He pleases. He is the sovereign God. 1 Chronicles 28:11-12 says “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all“.

Psalms 10:17-18 CEVUS06: You listen to the longings of those who suffer. You offer them hope, and you pay attention to their cries for help.  You defend orphans and everyone else in need, so that no one on earth can terrify others again.

God is our hope and He pays attention to us. He is not blind to our sufferings or deaf to our cries. He is a loving God who is always ready to defend our cause.

In summary, God is always present. He is never far from us. Even if we don’t feel him near, truth is, He is always there.

He sees us, hears us, listens and delivers us from our troubles. He is not deaf or asleep. No! Psalms 121 says He never sleeps nor slumber…Our God pays attention to us and always working on our behalf.

Be encouraged today :). You are not forgotten and God will hear your cry for help. Keep praising and trusting him. He may not come when you want him to or how you want him to, but be rest assured He will surely show up for you.

Prayer:
Father we thank you so much for today. Thank you for reminding us that you are always near and see us and hear us. Thanks for reminding us your arm is powerful enough to defeat the enemy and at the same time defend us. Today we pray for grace to continue to trust you and praise you even in the midst of trials. Lord, please encourage as many as are weary right now. Let them know you are near and feel your loving arms around them. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Good Morning y’all. Today we in chapter 9 of Psalms.

In this psalm, David is determined to praise God and testify of his goodness. Praising God should be something we do at all times, not just when we feel like it. God alone deserves our praise.

I stumbled on a verse by verse exposition on this chapter and I thought I’d share that today. I pray you are blessed as you read.

                             PSALMS 9
We will now begin the verse by verse study of this chapter of
Psalms.

Psalms 9:1 “{To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of
David.} I will praise [thee], O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew
forth all thy marvellous works.”

     We see a determined David here. I will praise thee. He is
determined to praise the Lord. We, like David, must determine in our
heart to praise the Lord. Sometimes it has to be determination that
causes us to praise. Circumstances make us want to mourn, when we
should be praising. We must remind ourselves of all of the marvellous
works of God. The following Scripture should be our attitude toward
God. Hebrews 13:15 “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of
praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving
thanks to his name.”

     Psalms 9:2 “I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing
praise to thy name, O thou most High.”

     Songs lift the spirit of man. We should all practice praising God
in song. Praise Him from whom all blessings flow. Isaiah 51:11
“Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with
singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy [shall be] upon their head:
they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and mourning shall
flee away.”  The joy of the Lord is our strength. We must recognize
the fact that there is none greater than God. He is the most High.

     Psalms 9:3 “When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall
and perish at thy presence.”

     When David came against Goliath, he came in the name of the most
High God. We do not have to avenge our enemies. Romans 12:20
” Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him
drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”
God fights the battles for us, if we are believers.

     Psalms 9:4 “For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou
satest in the throne judging right.”

     Just as David gave all the praise to God for the battles he won,
we must praise God in all things. God is on the side of the righteous.
His judgement is holy and right. Revelation 16:7 “And I heard another
out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous
[are] thy judgments.”

     Psalms 9:5 “Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed
the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.”

     God is patient and forgiving. God gives plenty of time to repent,
but, and if, they will not repent, His judgement falls hard upon them.
This reminds me so much of the flood in Noah’s time. Noah preached and
warned of the impending doom, but no one listened. God said , It is
enough and wiped them off the face of the earth. There is a time when
God says, Enough. Do not wait that long to repent!

     Psalms 9:6 “O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual
end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with
them.”

     Abraham pleaded for Sodom and Gomorrah, but there were not even
ten righteous in the city. God rained down fire and brimstone to
destroy the city and all who dwelled there, after the angels had
dragged Lot, his wife, and their two daughters out.  Wicked cities,
take heed.

     Psalms 9:7 “But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared
his throne for judgment.”

     God is established forever. He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning
and the End. There was no one before Him, and there will be no one
after Him. He is forever. He is the Eternal One. He is the great I Am.

     Psalms 9:8 “And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he
shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.”

     I Kings 8:32 “Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy
servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and
justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.”
Jesus Christ is the Righteous Judge. We have discussed over and over
in these lessons that, He is the only One worthy to judge. He
separates the righteous for heaven and eternal life with Him from the
ones who have rejected Him. Those who do not repent and accept Jesus
as their Saviour are condemned to hell. II Timothy 4:8 “Henceforth
there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but
unto all them also that love his appearing.”

     Psalms 9:9 “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a
refuge in times of trouble.”

     Psalms 46:1 “{To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song
upon Alamoth.} God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help
in trouble.”  The word translated refuge, in verse 9 above, means hill
front. David found safety from Saul in just such a place. Our safety
is in the Lord. He builds a hedge of safety around the true believer.
The blood of Jesus is our covering. The entire Sermon On The Mount was
for those who are oppressed. In this life, there are troubles and
trials, but remember, Jesus is our very present help.

     Psalms 9:10 “And they that know thy name will put their trust in
thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

     Psalms 37:25 “I have been young, and [now] am old; yet have I not
seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”  We find in
the next Scripture that, one of the promises of God is that He will
not forsake those who follow Him. Hebrews 13:5 “[Let your]
conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such
things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee.” We find that just to call on the name of the Lord will
save you. Acts 2:21 “And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall
call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” To read of the power of
authority given those who believe in that name, read the 14th chapter
of John beginning with the 12th verse.

     Psalms 9:11 “Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion:
declare among the people his doings.”
   
   We find in most churches, then and now, the praise is usually
accompanied by song. Zion, throughout the Bible, symbolizes the
church. The best way to begin and end a service in the church is to
sing praises to God. Most all songs tell a story of happenings in the
Bible. One of the most beautiful songs of praise today, in my opinion,
is Adoration. This is a song of praise to God which exalts Him above
all others. Nearly all the songs in the song book are songs of praise
to God, written by people who were moved upon by the Spirit of God.

     Psalms 9:12 “When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth
them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.”

     Those who shed their blood in the name of the Lord will not be
forgotten. Stephen is a very good example of one who shed his blood
for the gospel’s sake. In death, he saw heaven open and Jesus standing
to receive him. I Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”

     Psalms 9:13 “Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble
[which I suffer] of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from
the gates of death:”
    Psalms 9:14 “That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy
salvation.”

     The cry of all mankind is, Have mercy upon me O Lord. God hears
and answers prayers of those who believe. God sees our problems, even
before we pray and ask for help. The effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man availeth much. Jesus is salvation to all who will accept
Him. We can not save ourself. The praise must all go to Jesus.

     Psalms 9:15 “The heathen are sunk down in the pit [that] they
made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.” 
     Psalms 9:16 “The LORD is known [by] the judgment [which] he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.”

     The wicked is without excuse. He is guilty as charged, because he
has not accepted the forgiveness offered to him in Jesus Christ. The
heathen {those who have totally rejected Jesus} made his own choice.
He activated his own free will and rejected the Mercy of God. He
stands before the Judge of all the earth with nothing but his own
life. He is judged guilty of sin and worthy of death, because he did
not accept Jesus Christ as the full payment for his sin. His
righteousness is as filthy rags. The Lord is Just and must judge him
lost.

     Psalms 9:17 “The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the
nations that forget God.”

     Now, we see the terrible fate of all who reject Jesus as their
Saviour. The individual, or the nation, that turns their back on God,
wind up in hell.

     Psalms 9:18 “For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the
expectation of the poor shall [not] perish for ever.”

     Some believers in the Lord Jesus Christ have no earthly wealth.
The first few verses of John chapter 14 promises that Jesus is even
now in heaven building a mansion for you and me. We may be poor in
this world, but we have the greatest wealth known to man, when we have
the gift of eternal life. Many very wealthy people would trade all of
their wealth just to know their eternal life in heaven with Jesus was
assured. We must be like Paul. He said, whatever state he found
himself in, he was content.

     Psalms 9:19 “Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen
be judged in thy sight.” 
    Psalms 9:20 “Put them in fear, O LORD: [that] the nations may know themselves [to be but] men. Selah.”

     Not only, will man not prevail over God, but neither did Lucifer.
Men are not God. We are God’s creation. He can do with us as He will.
Man must realize that we are God’s servants. We will never be God. We
are what God allows us to be. Even kings and presidents are just men,
subject to the will of God. Fear God, and reverence Him. Repent, and
accept Jesus as full payment for your sins and then receive the gift
of eternal life.

Prayer:
Dear Lord we thank you for today. We praise and bless your holy name. We pray your praise will never depart from our mouth. Give us the boldness to testify of all that you have done for us. Thank you faithful One. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
