Good Afternoon y’all. Today we continue our study of the book of Mark.

Yesterday was chapter 6 but I didn’t get a chance to post the blog. Apologies 😦 .

We will be looking at chapter 6 today and hopefully i will be able to catch up during the week 🙂

Chapter 6 is fully loaded with a lot of goodies, but I want to focus on v35 – 44 🙂

“When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread;[e] for they have nothing to eat.” But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”  But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all.  So they all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. Now those who had eaten the loaves were about[f] five thousand men”. (Mark 6: 35 – 44 NKJV)

Here we see crowds gathered around Jesus and His disciples to hear Him teach. It was getting late and people were hungry. The disciples said, ‘… let’s release them so they can go get food’. To this, Jesus responded, ‘No you feed them’. The disciples went into panic mode: ‘where will we get money to feed these ones? Do you know how much it will cost?’

I’m gonna stop here for now. The Disciples seemed to had forgotten who was with them and commanded them to feed the people. It’s like they had forgotten that Jesus had power and works miracles. They automatically turned to trying to provide in their own strength and forgot about the one who had called them.

How often do we rely on our own strength? God gives us an assignment to do and we begin to moan and struggle about how we can’t do the assignment; or don’t have the resources or qualifications to do it. Have we forgotten just like the disciples, the One who called us? Have we forgotten that He is the All Powerful, All Sufficient, miracle-working God? We need to learn to stop relying on our own strength and start relying on God to help us carry out the tasks He has asked of us. Our strength can only carry us so far before it finally fails and we burn out. That’s why Jesus gave the invitation: ‘… come all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I’ll give you rest…’

Today if you are tired and struggling, you were never meant to carry the load anyway. ..it was Jesus’ to carry for you. He never expected you to do it in your strength, so why not turn it over to Him today and ask for His help.

After all the panicking from the disciples, Jesus responds by asking them how many loaves of bread they had. What I realised here is that Jesus didn’t even acknowledge their panic or their reasons why it’s impossible to feed the people. He went straight to “How many do you have…”. That is, what do you have right now. I’m reminded of a similar situation with Moses. Moses gave all the reasons in this world why he couldn’t speak to Pharaoh, and may I submit to you that those reasons were valid! Yes to the natural man they are… he was a stammarer and so on but to God he didnt see all that. He saw potential: He saw what can be. So God said to Moses, ‘…what do you have in your hands?’

It’s the same with the disciples in our chapter today, Jesus was asking them what do you have in your hands and I feel he is asking us the same question what do you have in your hands? It might look insignificant to you but if you submit it to Jesus, He can make it into something magnificent and glorious. The devil is very good at making us believe we are not good enough or what we have is not big enough for God to use. I hear people say when I loose some weight maybe then I can join a team at church; when I have more money I will donate and help charities out, when I  this, andwhen I that. How about you start with what you have and where you are this moment?

The disciples replied, ‘…5 loaves and 2 fishes’. Naturally, that is nothing when you are talking about over 5000 people that need to be fed. But our Jesus is not a natural man! Hallelujah! He is the most powerful force in the whole universe! He took the food, blessed it and told the disciples to feed the people.

Jesus taught us something very important here: He blessed the food. He gave thanks for it. Do we give thanks for the little we have or do we keep moaning and complaining about how little it is? When we thank God, He is bound to do more for us because we show him we are grateful children and not imbeciles.

The disciples went round feeding the people and to their amazement the food just won’t finish! Scripture says they had 12 baskets left over!!! That’s the God we serve. He doesn’t do additions…lol, He works in the magnitude of multiplications and powers!!

Give God the little you have today and watch Him multiply it, and make something beautiful out of it for His glory. Don’t listen to the lies that say what you have is not good enough. Try God…what’s the worst that can happen right? So give it all to Him and watch Him work through and in you.
