Psalms 2

Good morning y’all. Happy Saturday! Today we are reading Psalms 2. I read this chapter over and over in different versions and came to the conclusion this chapter was telling us about Jesus- The Messiah, The anointed one and the opposition that He will experience and how in the end God affirms him as his Son and gives victory.

Few things i observed that we can apply to our lives from the chapter

By the way my favorite verse was definately v7. “….. “The lord said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father.” I’m so glad God calls me his own. I know I don’t live up to his expectation all the time, but im glad he loves me still.

Here we go 🙂

V1 – 3:
1) Any decision or plan that is made outside of God is a useless and futile one.

2) As christians people will oppose us because we stand for the truth and do the right thing. In their hearts they know what we stand for is true but pride won’t let them accept the truth and therefore they look for a way to get rid of it hence the opposition.

3)They wanted to be free of God. As if it’s possible to rid oneself of God. God is everywhere whether we like it or not. How can a created thing suddenly wake up and say to the creator I don’t need you anymore. Perhaps the creation has forgotten the creator has the power to do and undo! 

V4 -6:
1)Gods plan will always prevail no matter how much people plot, complain, oppose and fight against us for standing for the truth. Good news is, as long as God is on our side, there ain’t no one that can ever be against us. See Romans  (I am excited about that and I wanna make sure God is always on my side 🙂 )

V 7 -9:
Here we see the decree/promise God made to His chosen King.
1) “You are my son; Today i have become your father.”- God affirmed him as his own 
2) “Only ask, and i will give you the nations as your inheritance…….” – God told him to ask and he will receive above and beyond.

3)”You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots” – God told him he will have victory over them.

The promise that was made is also available to us today thanks to Jesus.  Through him we are now sons and daughters of God. We are His chosen ones (1 Peter 2:9). All we need to do is ask.  James says we do not have because we do not ask (James 4:2) .  So what are you waiting for? Get to asking 🙂

V10 -12:
1)Serve God with gladness and reverant fear.

2)Blessed are those who seek refuge and put their trust in God.

Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord we thank you for today and for your word. Thanks for reminding us again that we are yours 🙂 . Thanks for reminding us you are on our side and therefore the enemies plans concerning us will not prevail. For as many that are facing opposition right now, we ask for your grace and strength to see them through and grace to trust you for victory. Thank you dear Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Psalms 1

Good morning y’all. Today we look at Psalm 1. I love this psalm a lot :). Tells of difference between a blessed (happy, fortunate, enviable and prosperous) person and one that’s not. I sure want to be blessed 🙂

Holy Spirit we ask you open our eyes to see, our ears to hear and our hearts to perceive the truth in the word today. Without you we can’t understand what we are reading so we ask for your help. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Here we go :). I’m using the SOAP method today

S – Scriptures
Psalms 1:2 NLT : But they delight in the law of the lord , meditating on it day and night.

Psalms 1:3 NLT : They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

O – Observations
O1- In v1, there are 3 things mentioned that a blessed person won’t do:
1)Walk or live in the counsel of the ungodly.
2) Stand around with sinners.
3)Join with mockers

O2 – In v2, there are  2 things a blessed person will do:
1)Delight in Gods word
2)Meditate on the word day and night.

O3 – V3 tells us the benefits of obeying v2 –
1) You will flourish and blossom just like a tree planted by rivers of water. A tree needs water and nutrient to survive and produce fruits. Same with us as Christians we need the Living water and the Word in order for us to flourish and blossom into all that God has called us to be. Joshua 1:8 says
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (NIV)

2) You will produce good fruits in season. The more time you spend in Gods word, the more you become like him and exhibit his characters which are likened to fruits. Gal 5:22 -23 says
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (NLT)

O4- The other thing that occurred to me thinking about the tree, is its root system.  Without a deep root system a tree won’t survive for long. Same with us, we need our roots to be deep in Gods word so that when the storms of life comes we are able to stand strong and not be shaken or destroyed. Col 2: 6-7 says

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

O5- As for the wicked they will wither away and their end is destruction.

O6- God watches over his own 🙂

A – Application

Take time out to Meditate on a scripture today.

P – Prayer.

Dear Lord thank you for today and for the privilege to know you. Help us create time in our busy lives to stop and meditate on your word.  Give us a desire and burning hunger for your word. Thank you Lord for you are good all the time and always hears us when we call. We Love you Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.
