Proverbs 30 – Just enough is all you need…

Good afternoon y’all. Happy Friday.

Thanks be to God for seeing us thus far in our study of Proverbs. We are in chapter 30 today.

From Monday 27th July, we will be doing a week in depth study of Proverbs 31. Courtney from good morning girls has done a brief info on this for us. Check out her blog post here

“O God, I beg two favors from you; let me have them before I die. First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the lord ?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name” (NLT).

“And then he prayed, “God, I’m asking for two things before I die; don’t refuse me— Banish lies from my lips and liars from my presence. Give me enough food to live on, neither too much nor too little. If I’m too full, I might get independent, saying, ‘God? Who needs him?’ If I’m poor, I might steal and dishonor the name of my God.” (MSG)

Oh my! These verses are so relevant for where I am right now. I have been making similar request to God this past week.  By God’s grace, I realised that a hint of pride was starting to set into my heart (especially since I’ve been experiencing a lot of breakthroughs and increase in my life recently. That temptation to take the glory to one’s self instead of giving it back to God has been rearing its ugly head) so I’ve been asking God to help me remain humble in the midst of the blessings and overflow He is bringing my way; that my heart will not be led astray by the increase.

The writer of today’s chapter was also praying and begging God in a similar manner. He asked God to help him deal honestly and not tell lies; that God will bless him with just enough to satisfy his needs, so that he won’t become too proud or have to steal and bring shame to God’s name. I am humbled by his prayer. This man realised he needed God’s help to achieve this level of maturity and wisdom. He understood the danger of pride and greed in ones live.

God wants to bless us, but He is delaying it for some because He knows we can’t handle the blessing yet: it is most likely that (for some of us) our hearts will be lead astray or we might decide we don’t need Him anymore!

Let’s learn to be humble and be content with what we have and learn to make the most of it.

Scripture says, “…godliness with contentment is great gain…”.

My prayer today is that God will bless us with just enough that we need to carry out His plans and purposes for our lives; and that our hearts will not be lifted up and we will not bring shame to His name, In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Thanks for joining today. Please feel free today leave your thoughts on the chapter.

Have a blessed weekend 🙂

Proverbs 28 – Confess and Turn away…

Good evening y’all. Today we are studying Proverbs 28.

Be blessed 🙂

Verse 9 and 13 stood out for me today.

“God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him” (V9 MSG).

“People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy” (V13 NLT).

“You can’t whitewash your sins and get by with it; you find mercy by admitting and leaving them” (V13 MSG) .

God has no use of the prayer of someone who doesn’t obey him. Disobedience shows we do not love God and do not revere Him. We cant act and walk outside of His will and expect him to bless us and answer all our prayers. That’s just taking liberties.

I remember growing up, my mum used to tell us that if we are good and obedient kids, then she will buy us gifts or allow us go out to play for a while. some days i test my boundaries and i purposely disobey even though i have been warned ( i bet you did as well 🙂 ). Sometimes when i do this, mum would have mercy and still let me have the gift or go out to play, but 9 out of 10 times she doesn’t. On those occasion, I am usually so sad and wish i had just obeyed and didn’t take a gamble hoping she would still give the gift or allow me play outside.

I feel its a similar way with us and God. He has laid out instructions for us to obey and there are consequences when we disobey them. He has equipped us with all that we need to be able to live a godly life. Now its left to us to decide if we want to obey or not.

God can choose to answer our prayers even if we are disobedient, but is that a gamble we want to take. Its just like how i used to gamble hoping my mum would give me the gift even though i have disobeyed her instructions. God says “For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose” (Exo 33:19), but we shouldn’t take this for granted. What if God decides He is not showing mercy today? It is better to do the right thing than doing the wrong thing and hoping you will be lucky.

We are not perfect and at one point or the other we probably will disobey God. At that point we need to go back and confess our sins and not hide them or continue to wile away in them. Verse 13 tells us if we hide our sins we wont prosper, but if we confess and turn away from them we will find mercy. God is always ready to forgive us and take us back every time we make a mistake but we have to make the first step of going back to him and admitting we were wrong in the first place.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (KJV).

Verse 13 didn’t end at confess your sins. It says we also have to turn away from them. We cant keep saying we are sorry and already plotting how we going to repeat the sin again. That’s not repentance!!!!

Lets stop playing games with God. If we genuinely mean it, lets turn away completely from our sins. Grace is available to us today, all we need to do is tap into it.

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thoughts on the chapter.

Have a blessed evening 🙂
