Psalms 11

Good Afternoon y’all. Today we looking at psalms 11. In this psalm, David is affirming and declaring that in God he has taken refuge.

I will be using the SOAP method. Be blessed πŸ™‚

S – Scripture that stood out for me

Psalms 11:1 NLT – I trust in the lord for protection. So why do you say to me, β€œFly like a bird to the mountains for safety!

O – Observations

O1) God is our only place of safety and we dont need anything else. All that we need and want is found in God. Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, we need to remind ourselves that God is all we need, to get us through.

O2) Don’t fret when trouble comes. As long as we know we are on Gods side, we have nothing to fear.  Psalm 27:1 says:
“The lord is my light and my salvationβ€” so why should I be afraid? The lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?” (Psalms 27:1 NLT)

O3) We should be careful of the  people we take advice from. In this psalm, David was being told to go hide because of the enemies plans, but I love David’s response which was “I trust in the Lord for protection” (Psalms 11:1a NLT). Basically he was saying, I don’t need to look for any place of safety or protection. I already have my safety and that is God. He is the best fortress or place to hide.
This should be our response as well, when people and situation around us are telling us to look for alternative solutions to God.

O4) Irrespective of what is happening around us or what is being reported in the news, God is still on the throne. He hasn’t changed or lost control. He sees everything thats going on and He pays attention to the righteous. Knowing this should fill us with confidence, joy and hope. Our God is still All Powerful and All Mighty.

O5) God detests wicked people. Psalm 10 : 2-11 describes the wicked. These are people who have no regard whatsoever for God. They are proud and boast in their own ability and oppress the helpless.

O6) God is a righteous God and those who are in right standing with him, will see his face. Matthew 5:8 says “God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him!” (CEVUS06)

A – Application

A1) Be confident in God’s ability to save, deliver and protect us.

A2) Meditate on scriptures that talk about God being our refuge, hiding place and fortress.

P – Prayer
Dear Lord we thank you for today. Thank you for reminding us that we are safe in you. Give us grace to trust you and not look to other sources for our help. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen

Thank you for joining today
Have a blessed day πŸ™‚

Psalms 7

Good morning y’all. Happy Friday :). Today we are looking at Psalms 7.

In this psalm, we see a man who is desperate for protection and deliverance from his enemies. He needs God to come to his rescue ASAP and defend his cause. He wants God to come and pronounce judgement on his enemies.

I am going to focus today’s blog on verse 1. I love how David started off the psalm. I will encourage you to read the whole psalm if you can.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

O Lord my God, in You I take refuge and put my trust; save me from all those who pursue and persecute me, and deliver me, (Psalm 7:1 AMP)

1) O lord my God – David is acknowledging God as his God. It’s a personal declaration which suggests he has a personal relationship with God; not a God of anyone else but his God.

Thanks to the blood of Jesus, we too can bodly declare God you are our God. What a great privilege and honor it is to have the Almighty God as our God.

2) In you I take refuge – not only has he declared that God is his God, he is also declaring here that in his God he takes refuge. I checked the meaning of refuge and found that refuge means a place of safety or shelter. It also means a “source of help, relief, or comfort in times of trouble” (The Free Dictionary). In essence, David was declaring that only in his God does he find help, relief and comfort.

Like David, I pray we get to a place where truly believe and undertaand that only in God can we find safety, shelter and deliverance. I’m reminded of Provers 18:10 which says: The Lord is a mighty tower where his people can run for safety. (Proverbs 18:10 CEVUS06)

3) And put my trust – David is declaring his trust is in God and not man. To trust means a ‘firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something’. (Google). In other words, he has a firm belief in in the reliability, truth and ability of God to deliver and protect him from his enemies.

Friends, only God can truly be trusted because He has never failed before (Zephaniah 3:5). He has been proved and tested and found to be accurate, reliable, dependable, trustworthy and just. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heberews 13:8); in whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning (James 1:17b); He is not a man that He should lie, nor a human being that He should change his mind (Numbers 23:19).

Run to him today and trust in Him. I can assure you he won’t fail you. There is an assurance and peace that comes even in the midst of the storm when you know God is on youur side and has your back. So trust him today πŸ™‚

4) Save me from all those who pursue and persecute me, and deliver me – By the time David got to this point, he had declared God to be his God, he had declared God to be his place of safety and shelter, he had declared God to be the one he trusts to deliver him. Now, he is clearly stating his need to God. His urgent pressing need at that point was deliverance from his enemies.

What I really want to bring out here is that, David was specific and clear in his request to God. Some of us come before God and don’t even know what it is we need him to do for us but David on the other hand, even though he knows God can do all things, still specifically told God what he needed. Let’s learn to be specific in our requests to God, let’s be honest and tell Him exactly what we need him to do for us. I believe it doesn’t matter how small or big the need might be, God is interested πŸ™‚

Prayer:
Dear Lord we thank you for today. Thank you for reminding us that you are our God, a place of safety and shelter and the one we can trust. Give us grace to trust you more. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Thank you for joining today.

We continue blogging on Monday with Psalms 8.

Have a great day and lovely weekend. Remember, God is our place of safety and refuge πŸ™‚
