Good day everyone and welcome to another day of blogging through the book of Proverbs đ
Today we look at chapter 10 and I’ll be focusing on verse 5 and 19

[5] Know the importance of the season youâre in and a wise son you will be. But what a waste when an incompetent son sleeps through his day of opportunity! (Proverbs 10:5 TPT)
The phrase âknow the importance of the season you are inâ shows that life is in seasons, each with its own purpose. If we don’t identify what each season is for, we risk missing out on the opportunities or experiences available during that time.
In this verse, a person who understands what they should be doing in their season is likened to one who is wise, while a foolish person is one who sleeps through their seasons, who is not sensitive enough to understand what he should be doing in that season.
This reminds me of the sons of Issachar in King Davidâs time. The Bible records they were a people who understood the seasons and knew what Israel needed to do.
32from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should doâ200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command; (1Chronicles 12:32 NIV)
We as children of God, have the Holy Spirit as our advantage so there shouldn’t be any reason why we can’t understand our seasons. The Holy Spirit is there to guide us, help us, teach us and tell us of things to come.
9But as it is written: âEye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.â 10But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. (1Corinthians 2: 9-12 NKJV)
If you are uncertain about your current season or what you should be doing, ask the Holy Spirit. He is available to provide insight regarding your season and what you should be doing. He is always ready to reveal God’s mind to us.
Another verse that stood out for me is verse 19.
[19] If you keep talking, it wonât be long before youâre saying something really wrong. Prove youâre wise from the very startâ just bite your tongue and be strong! (Proverbs 10:19 TPT)
If we donât have control over our mouth, it can really get us into trouble. Just like the verse says, the more we talk, the more chances of us saying something we shouldnât. It is wisdom to have control over our mouth. James 3: 2-5 says:
2We all fail in many areas, but especially with our words. Yet if weâre able to bridle the words we say we are powerful enough to control ourselves in every way, and that means our character is mature and fully developed. 3Horses have bits and bridles in their mouths so that we can control and guide their large body. 4And the same with mighty ships, though they are massive and driven by fierce winds, yet they are steered by a tiny rudder at the direction of the person at the helm.5And so the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it carries great power!  Just think of how a small flame can set a huge forest ablaze. (James 3: 2-5 TPT)
Today, letâs be mindful of the things we say, as the words we choose have the potential to either uplift or cause harm. Proverbs 18:21 says: âYour words are so powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.â
