Genesis 13

Good morning y’all.  Today we in chapter 13. This chapter we see Lot and Abram go their seperated ways and God reaffirming his promise to Abram.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

Right from the beginning, I think Lot was an additional baggage that Abram didn’t need on his journey (I might be wrong though πŸ™‚ ). I say this because in chapter 12 when God called him, God told him to leave his family and relatives behind of which I think Lot was one of those that was meant to be left behind.

Eventually in this chapter we see that Abram had to be seperated from Lot before he could fully progress.

Abram and Lot had acquired so much that the land couldn’t contain both of them together. Abram realised it was time to separate for the sake of peace. He told Lot it was time to part. I like what Abram did here even though he was the older one, he could have used his older status to dish out a section of the land to Lot and dismiss him, but he didnt do that, rather he humbled himself and gave Lot the option to choose which part of the land he wanted. He also let him choose first.

Now I ask myself why would Abram do that. What If Lot chose the best places and left Abram with the not so good places. Well that’s exactly what happened. But I guess Abram decision was based on the fact that he had finally understood that God is able to provide for him and bless him irrespective of what he has and where he was. He knew that even if Lot chose all the best parts of the land, God can still bless him and prosper him in the left over part that seems not so good. And that’s exactly what happened :). When we truly understand God and His nature, it will positively affect the way we deal with people and circumstances. Abram displayed humility and selflessness.

So Lot looked and the plain lands of the Jordan valley looked so appealing and beautiful. Infact the NLT Version says it was like the garden of the lord…that is the land was so beautiful and fertile, had everything going for it, full of flowers  animals everything you could think of and so Lot chose this land. What he didn’t know was that even though the land was beautiful, the people were very wicked and constantly sinning against God and it was only a matter of time before God’s anger was kindled against them and He will eventually destroy the land.
What looks good on the surface may not necessarily be good after closer inspection. We need to always seek God’s face for direction and guidance so that we don’t miss his best for us and end up where we ought not to be.

The begining of verse 14 jumped out at me while i was reading. It says: “After Lot had gone….” That is until Abram was separated from Lot, God didn’t appear or speak to him again. We need to examine ourselves. What are the things or people we need to be separated from so that God can fully do his work in us. Could it be a relationship God is telling us to break off but we are holding back or someone God is asking us to forgive but we choose to hold on to unforgiveness. Just like Abram until we separate ourselves from those things or people we might never be able to enter and enjoy the best that God has for us.

Now lot had gone and God spoke to Abram and reassured him again that he was gonna bless him and give the land as a permanent possession to his descendants. God said to him to look around as far as his eyes can see. Whatever he could see was gonna belong to his descendants forever. Wow! what a great promise :).

What are you seeing today? Ask God to open your eyes so you can start to see the great future He has in store for you. It may look bad now but remember God is able to turn around a bad situation into a good one. Abram was left with what seemed like the not so good land yet God promised to bless him beyond his wildest imaginations in that land. Wherever you are today, trust God he can make things work for you. Be encouraged πŸ™‚

Again Abram built an altar to the Lord. He thanked God even though he had not yet seen the promise fulfilled. Infact he was childless yet God said I will give this land to your descendants. Still he praised and worshipped God. Friends let’s do the same. Let’s believe the promise, knowing that he who has promised, is faithful to the end. Heb 10:23 and 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says it well.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23 NLT

God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 NLT

Prayer:
Dear Lord we thank you for today. We ask you teach us to be humble and selfless in our dealings with people. We ask that you will guide us and direct us so we don’t stray from the path you have ordained for us. We ask you help us get rid of the things in our lives that are hindering us from moving and entering the rest you have for us. We ask for the grace to trust you more and to continually praise and worship you even in the difficult times. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name.  Amen.

Genesis 11

Good morning y’all.  Today we in chapter 11. This chapter shows us that there is power in unity and introduces us to Abram and his family.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

There is power in unity. When we are all united in one purpose, there is nothing that we can’t achieve.

The people living after the flood understood this and they decided to build a tower that reaches up to heaven. Although their motive for building the tower was completely wrong. They were building the tower in order to make a name for themselves. They were prideful. God wasn’t gonna have any of that! He saw that they were united even though it was unity born out of wrong motives and because of the unity, could actually achieve what they set out to do, He confused the people and scattered them all over the face of the earth. As a result they couldn’t continue with their plans.

The Lord said, β€œIf as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”   So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. Genesis 11:6-8 NIV

The enemy knows this secret and that’s why he is always looking for ways to cause division amongst us. He knows that once we have a divided vision, it will be difficult, if not impossible for us to achieve our purpose or fulfill destiny as Christians.

Throughout the bible there are scriptures that encourages us to live in harmony with one another. One of such is found in Pauls letter to the Corinthians.

I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.1Corinthians1:10 NLT

For us to be able to live in unity, we need to learn to be patient with each other, be quick to forgive offences, walk in love, get rid of jealousy and pride, be humble.
Colossians 3: 13-14 and Phillipians 2:1-4 sheds some more light on this.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:13-14 NIV

Christ encourages you, and his love comforts you. God’s Spirit unites you, and you are concerned for others. Now make me completely happy! Live in harmony by showing love for each other. Be united in what you think, as if you were only one person. Don’t be jealous or proud, but be humble and consider others more important than yourselves. Care about them as much as you care about yourselves. Philippians 2:1-4 CEVUS06

Today, with the help of the holy spirit, lets make a decision to live in harmony with those around us, bearing with each other and walking in love.

Prayer:
Dear Lord we thank you for your word today. Holy Spirit we ask you help us live in harmony with one another. Give us the grace to be patient, to quickly forgive offences, to be humble and walk in love. Thank you Lord.  In Jesus Name. Amen
