Psalms 1

Good morning y’all. Today we look at Psalm 1. I love this psalm a lot :). Tells of difference between a blessed (happy, fortunate, enviable and prosperous) person and one that’s not. I sure want to be blessed πŸ™‚

Holy Spirit we ask you open our eyes to see, our ears to hear and our hearts to perceive the truth in the word today. Without you we can’t understand what we are reading so we ask for your help. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Here we go :). I’m using the SOAP method today

S – Scriptures
Psalms 1:2 NLT : But they delight in the law of the lord , meditating on it day and night.

Psalms 1:3 NLT : They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

O – Observations
O1- In v1, there are 3 things mentioned that a blessed person won’t do:
1)Walk or live in the counsel of the ungodly.
2) Stand around with sinners.
3)Join with mockers

O2 – In v2, there are  2 things a blessed person will do:
1)Delight in Gods word
2)Meditate on the word day and night.

O3 – V3 tells us the benefits of obeying v2 –
1) You will flourish and blossom just like a tree planted by rivers of water. A tree needs water and nutrient to survive and produce fruits. Same with us as Christians we need the Living water and the Word in order for us to flourish and blossom into all that God has called us to be. Joshua 1:8 says
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (NIV)

2) You will produce good fruits in season. The more time you spend in Gods word, the more you become like him and exhibit his characters which are likened to fruits. Gal 5:22 -23 says
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (NLT)

O4- The other thing that occurred to me thinking about the tree, is its root system.  Without a deep root system a tree won’t survive for long. Same with us, we need our roots to be deep in Gods word so that when the storms of life comes we are able to stand strong and not be shaken or destroyed. Col 2: 6-7 says

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

O5- As for the wicked they will wither away and their end is destruction.

O6- God watches over his own πŸ™‚

***With God all things are possible***

1 John Chapter 5

Good Morning y’all.Β  Trust we had a good weekend. Today we are looking into the last chapter of 1 John.

Holy Spirit we ask you open our eyes to see, our ears to hear and our hearts to percieve the truth in the word today. Without you we can’t understand what we are reading so we ask for your help. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Be blessed πŸ™‚

S – Scriptures that stood out for me.

1 John 5:3-4 CEVUS06 : We show our love for God by obeying his commandments, and they are not hard to follow.Β  Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory.

1 John 5:9 CEVUS06: We believe what people tell us. But we can trust what God says even more, and God is the one who has spoken about his Son.

1 John 5:21 NLT : Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

O – Observations
O1 – Chapter starts out by emphasizing the command to love God and one another.Β  V2 says “If we love and obey God, we know we will love his children.” 1 John 5:2 CEVUS06

O2- Our love for God is made obvious by our Obedience to his commandments. V3 tells us His commandments are not hard to follow. Remember, we have the Holy Spirit to help us.

O3 – As children of God we have the power to defeat the world through our faith in Jesus Christ. Nothing can overcome us as it’s written in 1 John 4:4 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world”. Whatever situation you are facing today, you can defeat the situation through your faith in God. This tells me Faith is important if we want to experience victory in every area of our lives.
What is the definition of faith? According to Google, faith is “complete trust or confidence in someone or something”. In this case COMPLETE trust or CONFIDENCE in God. Strengthen your faith by reminding yourself of the victories that God has already won for you. Meditate on scriptures that tell of God’s power and greatness. Spend time in prayer.Β  Prayer doesn’t have to be difficult…its simply conversation with God. Talk to him, He longs to hear from you. Be encouraged πŸ™‚

O4- V9 tells us we can trust what God says. His word is always the truth. It is absolutely impossible for God to lie.
Numbers 23:19 NLT says “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

O5 – We have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

O6 – God hears and answers our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. It’s a fact that God answers prayers. U might say but I prayed and He didn’t answer mine, I can’t tell you why He didnt answer but one thing I know for certain is that, He can’t lie or go back on His word.Β  V 14 – 15 says “We are certain God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. And if we know God listens when we pray, we are sure our prayers have already been answered” (1 John 5:14-15 CEVUS06). He might not come the way or when we want him to but He surely hears and answers us. Take comfort and have boldness when you pray cos God definately pays attention to you. He is your father. Which father in his right mind will not listen when his child is talking to him especially if it’s a child that he is pleased with.Β  Now if our earthly father will do that,Β  how much more our heavenly father. The one who declared us as His own. Who told us in Jeremiah 31:3 that he has loved us with an everlasting love. Don’t know about you but i’m excited to belong to this God. He’s just too amazing, can’t get enough of him πŸ™‚

O7 – Pray for others who have fallen into sin. It’s not our place to judge or spread rumours about people who fallen into sin rather we should lift them up in prayer asking God to restore them back to the faith.

O8 – Again v 18 emphasizes the fact that God’s Children CAN NOT keep on sinning. I like the message version translation. It says “We know that none of the God-begotten makes a practice of sin….”

O9 – God protects us and the devil can’t harm us.

O10 – V21 tells us we are to stay away from anything that takes God’s place in our lives.

AΒ  – Application.
A1 – Have faith in God to handle whatever comes our way today

A2 – Walk in Love today

A3 – Believe God does hear and answer when we pray

A4 – Stay away from anything that takes God’s place in our lives.

P – Prayer
Dear Lord we thank you for today. Thank you for another opportunity to learn from you. Thank you for making us your own. Thank you for the eternal life we have through your son. Today we ask for the grace to walk in love and obey your commands. Help us to have faith in you and to trust you to handle whatever the enemy throws at us. Help us walk away from anything that will take your place in our lives and may we always be pleasing to you in all that we do and say. We love you lord and we believe you hear and answer our prayers. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name.Β  Amen
