Numbers 1 & 2 – Obedience: True test of our love

Good morning y’all. Welcome back from our short break πŸ™‚

Today we will start with the book of Numbers. I’m excited to see what God will teach us from this book.

Today, I will be doing a combined study on chapters 1 and 2.  Be blessed πŸ™‚

Reading through chapter 1 and 2, obedience was what kept coming to my mind. I guess it’s because it’s a topic that God has been speaking to me about.

In chapters 1 and 2, God gave instructions to Moses for numbering the people from each tribe and for setting apart the Levites. Moses passed on the instruction to the people and they did all that God asked of them.

“So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
(Numbers 1:54 NLT)

Also in chapter 2 vs 34, it says they did all the Lord commanded them to do.

“So the people of Israel did everything as the Lord had commanded Moses. Each clan and family set up camp and marched under their banners exactly as the Lord had instructed them”.
(Numbers 2:34 NLT)

Notice they didn’t do some, rather they did ALL. I have come to realise that God doesn’t delight in partial obedience. In the kingdom of God, it’s either you obey or you don’t.  Nothing like I did some but left out a few.

When we refuse to obey God, there are always consequences. Take a look at the life of King Saul; and even Moses. God gave Saul specific instructions to carry out. He only did the bit he wanted and it eventually backfired and led to his family’s loss of the throne as a Kings in Israel. As for Moses, God told him to speak to the rock, but out of anger [and frustration] he struck the rock and in return it cost him the promised land.

When we obey there are also consequences: good ones though. See Isaiah 1:19 and Deut 28: 1-14

Obedience is not for God’s benefit, rather it’s for ours. It doesn’t do anything for Him, and whether we obey or not, it doesn’t diminish who He is as God. However, due to His love for us, and the fact that He wants the best for us, He gives instructions to guide and help us live the abundant life that He has for us. I love me some God though πŸ™‚ because He just doesn’t dish out instructions to us and leave us to figure out how to obey. No, He always supplies the grace to obey. We have the Holy Spirit, who is our Helper and Teacher. Scripture says, God has given us everything we need to live a godly life, which implies that we have, within us, all that we need to live an obedient life.

As we go about our day, let’s trust God to help us live obedient lives. We can’t obey if we don’t know what we ought to be doing.  So let’s also ask God to reveal His plan for us so we can obey Him; and let’s spend time searching God’s word as well.

Jesus said if you love me you will obey my commands.

Remember our obedience is a reflection of our love for God.

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thots on the chapter.

Have a blessed day basking in God’s goodness and glory πŸ™‚

Acts 27 & 28 – God is able…

Acts 27

I love verses 23 – 25. God reassured Paul that he won’t die and the people with him on the boat.

“For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, and he said, β€˜Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’ So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said”. (Acts 27:23-25 NLT)

God is not a man that He should lie, if He has said it, then He surely will do it (Num 23:19).

Isaiah 55: 11 says “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it”. (NLT)

Paul was so confident that God is able to do what He has said He would do. He didn’t doubt at all. Infact he was very calm in the midst of the storm. He maintained his peace to the point that he was asking the crew to eat and stop worrying. He knew God can’t fail or go back on His word. That gave him the boldness and confidence he needed to endure the storm.

Friends, pls don’t let the circumstance you are in now rob you of your peace.  Hold onto God’s word about the situation and let it encourage you to keep going.

Philippians 4: 6- 7 tells us to not be anxious about anything…and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I believe Paul was living out this verse in this chapter.

Acts 28

God told Paul that he would testify of him in Rome in chapter 23 and that’s exactly what happened in this chapter. The word that was spoken was fulfilled πŸ™‚

“The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, β€œTake courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” (Acts 23:11 NIV)

I am so encouraged by chapter 27 and 28. I’m excited that God keeps His word. If we do our part, we can be rest assured that God will definitely do His part.

What has God promised you? Friends hold onto it, even if it feels highly impossible to you. With man it might be impossible, but with God all things are possible (Luke 1:37).

Psalm 27:14 says:
“Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (NKJV)

Be encouraged today, God is able to do what He said He will do. Keep trusting, praising and praying πŸ™‚

Have a blessed evening basking in Gods goodness and glory πŸ™‚
