Proverbs 28 – Confess and Turn away…

Good evening y’all. Today we are studying Proverbs 28.

Be blessed 🙂

Verse 9 and 13 stood out for me today.

“God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him” (V9 MSG).

“People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy” (V13 NLT).

“You can’t whitewash your sins and get by with it; you find mercy by admitting and leaving them” (V13 MSG) .

God has no use of the prayer of someone who doesn’t obey him. Disobedience shows we do not love God and do not revere Him. We cant act and walk outside of His will and expect him to bless us and answer all our prayers. That’s just taking liberties.

I remember growing up, my mum used to tell us that if we are good and obedient kids, then she will buy us gifts or allow us go out to play for a while. some days i test my boundaries and i purposely disobey even though i have been warned ( i bet you did as well 🙂 ). Sometimes when i do this, mum would have mercy and still let me have the gift or go out to play, but 9 out of 10 times she doesn’t. On those occasion, I am usually so sad and wish i had just obeyed and didn’t take a gamble hoping she would still give the gift or allow me play outside.

I feel its a similar way with us and God. He has laid out instructions for us to obey and there are consequences when we disobey them. He has equipped us with all that we need to be able to live a godly life. Now its left to us to decide if we want to obey or not.

God can choose to answer our prayers even if we are disobedient, but is that a gamble we want to take. Its just like how i used to gamble hoping my mum would give me the gift even though i have disobeyed her instructions. God says “For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose” (Exo 33:19), but we shouldn’t take this for granted. What if God decides He is not showing mercy today? It is better to do the right thing than doing the wrong thing and hoping you will be lucky.

We are not perfect and at one point or the other we probably will disobey God. At that point we need to go back and confess our sins and not hide them or continue to wile away in them. Verse 13 tells us if we hide our sins we wont prosper, but if we confess and turn away from them we will find mercy. God is always ready to forgive us and take us back every time we make a mistake but we have to make the first step of going back to him and admitting we were wrong in the first place.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (KJV).

Verse 13 didn’t end at confess your sins. It says we also have to turn away from them. We cant keep saying we are sorry and already plotting how we going to repeat the sin again. That’s not repentance!!!!

Lets stop playing games with God. If we genuinely mean it, lets turn away completely from our sins. Grace is available to us today, all we need to do is tap into it.

Proverbs 26 – So you think you are wise…

Good afternoon y’all. Happy Monday 🙂
Today, we continue our study of the book of Proverbs. We are in chapter 26.

Verse 12 of this chapter really caught my attention this morning. Pride is such a dangerous thing to have in ones life.

I pray as we read, the Holy spirit will reveal to us those areas where pride is still at work in our lives.

Be blessed 🙂

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There  is more hope for a fool than for him” (V12 NKJV) .

Are we wise in our own eyes? Do we believe we have ‘arrived’ or know it all, that we start to ignore God? Do we trust in our strength and wealth?

All of the above is pride in all of its glorification!!! Pride is what makes a man believe he knows it all and doesn’t need God. It’s such a dangerous thing to think you have ‘arrived’ or know it all, to the extent you stop taking corrections from people and even from God!

When we become careless and allow pride full reign in our lives, God himself will have to humble us and oh it’s such a painful experience to be humbled by God. Ask king Nebucadnezzer in the book of Daniel and Pharaoh in the book of Exodus. I’m sure they would both tell us they wish they weren’t proud and defiant against God. One was given a second chance, the other never got a chance to repent; he died in his pride and arrogance.

Scripture tells us that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).

Friends, let’s respect ourselves and understand our limitations. We cant make it through this christian race without Gods help and direction. That’s why proverbs 3: 5-7 tells us to trust in the Lord and not lean on our own understanding

“With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. Don’t ever think that you are wise enough, but respect the Lord and stay away from evil” (Pro 3:5-7 CEVUS06).

No matter how much money or how successful we are or how knowledgeable we are, never let us get too proud or reject instruction from God. It is a very dangerous thing to get to this point.

Humility is very important. Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:18 says:

“Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise” (NKJV).

That is for us to be wise, we must first learn to humble ourselves and admit we know nothing; that we are completely clueless. Then God can begin to teach us and fill us with His wisdom.

I will leave us with few scriptures on humility

“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom” (Pro 11: 2 NLT).

“Pride leads to destruction; humility leads to honor” (Pro 18:12 CEVUS06).

“True humility and fear of the lord lead to riches, honor, and long life”.(Pro 22: 4 NLT).

“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3:13 NLT).

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6 NLT).

“Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion” (Rom 12:16 NKJV).

I pray God will remove pride from our lives and fill us with the spirit of humility. Amen.
