Mark 2- How deep is your pursuit?

Good evening y’all. welcome to day 2 of our study through the book of Mark.

Today we are in chapter 2. Be blessed πŸ™‚

The paralyzed man and the four men in our text today realised that Jesus was the only solution to their problem. They must have heard about the miracles that Jesus has been doing all over town and decided they can’t afford to allow the man miss this opportunity….They have to get him to Jesus at all cost. They started on their journey to the house where they heard Jesus resides….

Upon arriving at the house where Jesus resides, they find the house is fully packed with visitors and absolutely no room whatsoever for them to get in. This means the paralyzed man won’t get a chance at his healing and their journey has been in vain. You would have thought the four men would have said to the paralyzed man- sorry there is not much we can do, maybe we have to come back another time. Instead of that, these four men were willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the man saw Jesus. They dug a hole over the roof to lower him down to Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he was amazed.

When Jesus saw how strongly they believed that he would help, Jesus said to the sick man, β€œSon, your sins are forgiven!” (Mark 2:5 TLB)

The question today is how far are we willing to go inorder to see Jesus? How deep are we willing to pursue him? Do we start and when it gets tough give up, or do we persevere and keep digging like the four men till we get to Jesus? How strongly do we believe Jesus can help us…maybe thats the reason why our pursuit for Him is not so intense.

Another thingΒ  that caught my attention as i read this chapter was the faith demonstrated by paralyzed man in Jesus. After the pharisees tried to distract away from Jesus forgiving his sins, Jesus told him to get up and go home. This guy didnt think twice at all. He got up immediately!!!!.

“And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, β€œWe’ve never seen anything like this before!” (Mark 2: 12 NLT)

This is a paralyzed man who probably hasn’t walked in years….here he is in front of Jesus and all the crowd and Jesus tells him to get up and immediately he got up. He didnt question what if I cant get up, what if I fall down.. what if what if…or even start giving excuses as to the reason why he cant get up…No he jumped up at the WORD. He heard the WORD spoken by THE WORD himself and he jumped and emabraced it and got His healing.

Friends what WORD are you hearing today…it might not tally with your circumstance but i need you to look beyond your circumstance and jump at the WORD of God just like the man in our chapter today did. Hold onto the word, believe it, knowing that He who has said it is able to bring it to pass. Run with the word, keep confessing and acting it even though everything around you might say otherwise. The bible says in Jeremiah 1:12 that God watches over his word to perform it. Numbers 23: 19 tells us that God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (NLT)

Isaiah 55:11 says : “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”. (NKJV)

I pray as we go about our daily lives, God will give us the grace to continue to pursue Him and seek Him with all our hearts. That we will learn to trust Him more and believe in His word. In Jesus Name. Amen

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thoughts on the chapter.

Have a blessed evening.

Mark 1 – What are you willing to leave behind?

Good evening y’all, welcome to the book of Mark πŸ™‚

First of all, I sincerely apologise for going off the radar for a while during the Job study 😦 . It was a difficult time for me but thanks to God i’m back and ready to blog through the book of Mark πŸ™‚ I’m excited to see what God has in store for us as we journey through this book together πŸ™‚ . I pray the Holy Spirit will enlighten us and speak to our hearts as we study and give the grace to put into practice all that we will learn. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Today we begin chapter 1….be blessed πŸ™‚

As i read the chapter, verse 16 – 20 immediately jumped at me. I was amazed at how Simon, Andrew, James and John left all to follow Jesus.

“As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. β€œCome, follow me,” Jesus said, β€œand I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him”.(Matthew 1: 16 – 20 NLT)

I ask myself how come it was easy for them to leave all and follow Jesus? Did they know about him before as scripture doesnt tell of any meeting with Jesus prior to him calling them…what was it that motivated a fisherman to leave his boat- his source of livelihood and run after Jesus?

I don’t have the answer to be honest but whatever be the reason, the fact is these men left all to follow Jesus and follow Him to the end they did. It wasn’t smooth sailing all the way for them, but nonetheless they stuck with Jesus.

Following Jesus is not always going to be easy….it comes at a cost but in the end its worth it. The fishermen in todays chapter left their source of livelihood. James and John even left their father and ran after Jesus!

Jesus himself said in Mark 8:34- 37-

“Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, β€œIf any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”

My question today is: what are we willing to leave behind in order to follow Jesus wholly? Is there anything too precious to give up for Him?

I pray the Holy spirit will enlighten our hearts and help us see those things that are hindering us from following Jesus wholly and give us the grace to follow Jesus in all humility and sincerity of heart. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Thanks for joining today. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on the chapter. Tomorrow, we continue with chapter 2.

Have a blessed evening πŸ™‚
