Proverbs 1 – Empowered to Reign in Life

Good day everyone and welcome back to my channel where I blog a chapter of the bible a day

Today we are revisiting the book of Proverbs, starting from chapter 1

The very first verse caught my attention. It says: “Here are kingdom revelations, words to live by, and words of wisdom given to empower you to reign in life, written as proverbs by Israel’s King Solomon, David’s son”.(Proverbs 1:1 TPT)

There is so much to unpack from the book of proverbs that will help us reign and have dominion here on earth.

In the first 5 verses of this chapter, reading from the TPT version, I could find 10 benefits of studying and living our day to day lives by the words found in the book of proverbs.

  1. Words of wisdom to empower us reign in life
  2. Revelation of wisdom
  3. Impartation of Spiritual Understanding
  4. Keys to unlock treasures of true knowledge
  5. Discipline to demonstrate wisdom in every relationship
  6. Discipline to choose what is right and fair
  7. Great skill to teach the immature and make them wise,
  8. It will give youth the understanding of their design and destiny.
  9. Wise will be wiser
  10. It will help acquire brilliant strategies for leadership.

Point 5, 7 & 10 blew my mind…. if you need to understand you design – how God made you and for what purpose, just study proverbs. You want to understand your destiny, study proverbs. You are a leader, and you want to lead Gods way, study proverbs. You want to understand how to navigate the relationships God has placed in your life, study proverbs. Whatever stage you are in life and wherever you find yourself, the answers you need is in the book of proverbs!!!!

Verse 7 is a popular verse we often quote but I like how the TPT version puts it

“We cross the threshold of true knowledge when we live in obedient devotion to God. Stubborn know-it-alls will never stop to do this, for they scorn true wisdom and knowledge”. (Prov 1:7 TPT)

True knowledge stems from obedience to God, having a deep reverence of Him and submission to Him. God himself is the source of knowledge, so who best to teach us everything we need to know about knowledge / wisdom than Him.

Verses 8–19 depict a father advising his child not to give in to peer pressure or follow friends into negative behavior, regardless of how appealing it might appear. Harmful actions can sometimes be disguised to seem positive, making them easy to fall for if one is not cautious. Thank God we have a loving father who constantly instructs us and guide us in the right way to go. The question is are you listening and are you willing to be led by the one who knows it all and is the source of all wisdom?

God is the source of wisdom and the only one who can give true wisdom. He is always ready to give us wisdom. In verse 23, we see the invitation of wisdom, calling us to come back to our sense.

“Come back to your senses and be restored to reality. Don’t even think about refusing my rebuke! Don’t you know that I’m ready to pour out my spirit of wisdom upon you and bring to you the revelation of my words that will make your heart wise?” (Proverbs 1:23 TPT)

God wants to pour out on us all the spirit of wisdom thereby making our hearts wise. This wisdom pursuit is not just on the outside; it has to start from the inside.

Verse 33 tells us what those who heed to the invitation of wisdom will enjoy.

“But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, that one will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.” (Proverbs 1:33 TPT)

God is inviting us to come learn from Him. He is understanding, He is wisdom and He is knowledge. His way is the only sure way we can live a safe and peaceful life.

This is the daily invitation: to let wisdom be our companion, guiding us through every season, every relationship, every decision, until our lives become a living testimony to the beauty and power of God

Are you ready to heed the call?

Proverbs 1 – Start with God….

Good morning y’all. Welcome back from our summer break 🙂

Today we begin our study of Proverbs. I’m excited to see what God has in store for us.

For those joining the blogs for the 1st time, I’m blogging through the bible with Good Morning Girls. You can check out the group at www.goodmorninggirls.org.

We are studying chapter 1 today. The chapter is divided into sections. The 1st 6 verses tells us the benefits of Proverbs. Verses 7-19 tells us the beginning of wisdom and to stay away from evil counsel. Verses 20 – 33 tells us what happens to the one who refuses to heed the call of wisdom.

Be blessed 🙂

I will start with the benefits of reading Proverbs. According to verse 3 -6, Proverbs can:

– Teach us how to live intelligently
– Teach us how to be honest, just and fair
– Make us clever
– Make us resourceful
– Add to our existing knowledge
– Give us guidance

I sure want all of that!!! If you do as well, then you are in the right place 🙂 . These are all the benefits we can get from reading this book in the bible.

So where does it all start from? According to verse 7, the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God. In the message version this says

“Start with God —the first step in learning is bowing down to God ; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning”. (Pro.1:7 MSG)

Our starting point is God. Learning to humble and reverence Him is where wisdom, understanding and knowledge begins.

Another version says “respect and obey the Lord. This is the beginning of knowledge”. (CEVUS06)

The latter part of verse 7 tells us fools despise wisdom and discipline. It’s a fool that will always think he knows it all and doesn’t need to learn from any other person including God Almighty – the one who knows the end from the beginning. Why won’t you want to learn from Him?

Verse 19 in the NLT version struck me.
Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life”. (Pro 1:19 NLT)

This is so true. It’s like we are never content…constantly wanting more and in the process forget to enjoy what we already have. Let’s stop chasing after temporal things that won’t last rather let’s chase after things of eternal value. It’s good to have money no doubt, but we mustn’t let our quest for money take control of our lives that we become slaves to the money. We are meant to master money and not money master us!

Refusing to learn from God only sets us up for failure and rejection. How can the creation say to the creator I know more than you do? Verse 28 – 30 says
“When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord . They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them”. (Pro.1:28-30 NLT)

God is inviting us to come learn from Him. He is understanding, He is wisdom and He is knowledge. His way is the only sure way we can live a safe and peaceful life. Let’s heed His call

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” (Pro.1:33.NLT)

I pray we all make the right choice today.

Thank you for joining.

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the chapter 🙂

Have a blessed day 🙂
