Proverbs 6 – Wake up sleepyhead

Good day everyone and welcome to another day of blogging 😊

Today we look at chapter 6 and I’ll be focusing on verses 6-11

6When you’re feeling lazy, come and learn a lesson from this tale of the tiny ant. Yes, all you lazybones, come learn from the example of the ant and enter into wisdom. 7The ants have no chief, no boss, no manager— no one has to tell them what to do. 8You’ll see them working and toiling all summer long, stockpiling their food in preparation for winter. 9So wake up, sleepyhead. How long will you lie there? When will you wake up and get out of bed? 10If you keep nodding off and thinking, “I’ll do it later,” or say to yourself, “I’ll just sit back awhile and take it easy,” just watch how the future unfolds! 11By making excuses you’ll learn what it means to go without. Poverty will pounce on you like a bandit and move in as your roommate for life.  (Proverbs 6: 6-11 TPT)

Are you struggling with laziness or complacency? The above scriptures should encourage you to change your mindset and get up and start doing something. There is a time and place for everything according to Eccl 3:1-8. You can’t spend all your time wishing and daydreaming, you need to get up and do some work. Eph 5: 15-16 tells us to take full advantage of every day and spend it living for Gods purposes.

15-16So be very careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honorably with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for his purposes. (Eph 5:15-16 TPT)

The commentary in my study Bible provided an insightful summary of verses 6-11, effectively highlighting the importance of balancing rest with the necessity of work.

“The last few moments of sleep are delicious; we savor them as we resist beginning another workday. But these verses warn against giving in to the temptation of laziness, of sleeping instead of working. This does not mean we should never rest: God gave us the Sabbath, a weekly day of rest and restoration. But we should not rest when we should be working. The ant is used as an example because this tiny creature utilizes its energy and resources economically. If laziness turns us from our responsibilities, poverty may soon bar us from the legitimate rest we should enjoy.” (Life Application Study Bible NLT)

Interestingly my mentor addressed the issue of laziness and complacence today and she said: “Rest, but don’t exagerate your requirement of rest, until you have expanded your devotion to the Demands of Destiny. Sometimes, what we are calling rest, is complacence that cancels the Calling of the Called!” – (Pastor Debola Deji-Kurunmi DDK)

Its time to get up and stop making excuses!!! You are strengthened and graced for this.

I pray we are careful how we live, not being like those with no understanding, but living honorably with true wisdom and that we take full advantage of every day as we spend our life for Gods purposes in Jesus name. Amen.

Proverbs 5 – God doesn’t miss a move

Today we look at chapter 5 and I’ll be focusing on the last 3 verses of the chapter 

[21] For God sees everything you do and his eyes are wide open as he observes every single habit you have. [22] Beware that your sins don’t overtake you and that the scars of your own conscience don’t become the ropes that tie you up. [23] Those who choose wickedness die for lack of self-control, for their foolish ways lead them astray, carrying them away as hostages— kidnapped captives robbed of destiny. (Proverbs 5:21-23 TPT)

[21-23] Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make; he’s aware of every step you take. The shadow of your sin will overtake you; you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark. Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. (Proverbs 5:21-23 MSG)

Do you think we can hide from God? The answer is a capital NO 😊. He sees everything and is aware of all that we do. Like the Message version says, God doesn’t miss a move we make. His eyes are constantly watching us. Rather than watching to punish, He observes us with a loving intention to guide and correct.

What is that habit or sin that you are toying with? You think no one knows about it but guess what, God does. You can’t hide it from him see Ps 139:7-12

[7-12] Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute— you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you. (Psalms 139:7-12 MSG)

He sees it all so why not surrender to him and give over those habits and sin that easily beset you. He is ready to take them off you and help you get on the right path. Heb 12:1-2 says:

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne”. (Hebrews 12: 1-2 NLT)

If you choose to continue in your sin, it will eventually overtake you one day. This reminds me of Genesis 4:7, where God told Cain that sin is knocking at his door and if he doesn’t master it, it will take over him.

[7] You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” (Genesis 4:7 NLT)

An undisciplined life or one that lacks self-control only leads to destruction or a dead end with no future in sight. So whatever bad habits you are keeping and nurturing, remember that God sees you and is aware of them. You can surrender them to Him, and he will step in and help you or you can choose to continue in its path and expect self-destruction.

My prayer for you and I today is that we will learn to say NO to anything that will derail us from our relationship with God, and we will learn to trust Him to lead us and guide us in the right path for our lives in Jesus Name. Amen
