Good day everyone, and welcome back to our journey through the book of John! 😊

Today we’re diving into chapter 4, and my prayer is that as we reflect together, God’s Word will bring encouragement, guidance, and fresh revelation for our daily walk.

This chapter opens with a beautiful reminder of Jesus’ humanity. We see Him tired and weary after a long journey. The group stops in Samaria, and while His disciples go to buy food, Jesus sits by Jacob’s well to rest and have a drink.

But as we know, nothing with God is ever a coincidence. I believe Jesus chose that exact spot at that exact moment because He knew a Samaritan woman would come—and that her life was about to change forever. Her time had come.

In the same way, nothing in our lives happens by accident. God is intentional. He knows every detail of our journey and has a plan woven through it all. We can trust Him completely.

When Jesus asked the woman for water, she was shocked. Jews typically had no dealings with Samaritans; there was deep division between them. But Jesus breaks barriers. He crosses social, cultural, and gender lines to reach people.

In Christ, every wall comes down. Galatians 3:28 TPT says:

“And we no longer see each other in our former state—Jew or non-Jew, rich or poor, male or female—because we’re all one through our union with Jesus Christ.”
(Galatians 3:28 TPT)

This woman didn’t expect a Jewish man to even speak to her, let alone ask her for a drink. Yet if only she knew who she was talking to!

“If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you, you’d ask me for a drink, and I would give you living water.” (John 4:10 TPT)

How many times have we missed Jesus without realizing it—just like this woman? She believed the Messiah was coming but didn’t recognize that He was standing right in front of her. I imagine Jesus kept the conversation going so she could finally see the truth, that He was indeed the Messiah she had been waiting for. He told her that God had a gift for her—the gift of salvation and eternal life.

When Jesus spoke of living water, she became eager to receive it. She said, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

“If you drink from Jacob’s well, you’ll be thirsty again, but if anyone drinks the living water I give them, they will never be thirsty again.
For when you drink the water I give you, it becomes a gushing fountain of the Holy Spirit, flooding you with endless life.” (John 4:13–14 TPT)

Are you still going to the ‘well’—searching for fulfilment in things that never truly satisfy? Why not give Jesus, the Living Water, a try? Only He can quench the deep thirst of your soul. No material possession, relationship, or success can satisfy the longing within you—only God can.

As their conversation continued, Jesus revealed truths about her life that no stranger could have known. Yet instead of condemning her, He offered grace. He saw beyond her past and offered her a new beginning.

When she realized who He was, she ran back to her town, telling everyone about her encounter. She became an evangelist in an instant! Because of her testimony, many in her town believed in Jesus that day.

She didn’t keep her encounter to herself—and neither should we. When Jesus changes your life, you can’t help but tell others.

Jesus didn’t judge her for her sins; He saw her potential. The same Jesus who offered her living water is extending that same offer to you today. No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, He is ready to fill you with His living water—His presence, His peace, His Spirit.

This doesn’t mean life will suddenly be free of challenges. Jesus Himself said in John 16:33:

“In this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!” (TPT)

The difference is this: when life’s challenges come, you won’t face them alone. Jesus will be with you, to strengthen, guide, and comfort you every step of the way.

Today, embrace Jesus’s offer of living water and thirst no more. Don’t harden your heart, open it to Jesus. Like the woman at the well, you too can encounter Him in a life-changing way.

Try Jesus—you won’t regret it. He alone can satisfy your soul.
