Proverbs 13 – Control your lil member

Good evening y’all. Today we are continuing our study of proverbs. We are in chapter 13.

Verse 3 just did it for me today. Again telling us about our tongue and our words

Be Blessed 🙂

“3 Self-control means controlling the tongue! A quick retort can ruin everything. ( Proverbs 13: 3 TLB)

This verse links back to what we have been discussing regarding words from chapter 10, 11 and 12. Self control is one of the fruits of the spirit and very crucial for us as Christians. Our tongue as small as it is, can do a lot of damage.  Basically think before you speak!!!

Proverbs says a man without self control is like a city without walls.This means if you lack self control any thing goes. You will find yourself constantly open to attacks and falling for anything.

A man without self-control
    is like a city broken into and left without walls”. (Proverbs 25: 28 ESV)

A true test of our self control is how well we can control our tongue; restrain our lips from talking when it shouldn’t speak; learning to keep our mouth shut. When we talk without thinking about the impact of our words, we could potentially ruin relationships with other people and land ourselves in trouble. A lot of relationships have been destroyed due to words that have been exchanged. It will pay to calm down, maybe even walk away from the situation and pray before uttering a response. (I am not yet here but this is what I desire daily 🙂 )

Our flesh on the other hand likes to jump up and quickly respond. It always wants to give a peace of our mind and at the end of the day we are left with nothing but broken relationships and lost opportunities.

I will remind us again of James chapter 3 in the TLB  and MSG version.

” 2 If anyone can control his tongue, it proves that he has perfect control over himself in every other way”.  (James 3: 2 TLB)

“A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell. This is scary: You can tame a tiger, but you can’t tame a tongue—it’s never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!” (James 3: 5-10 MSG)

Prayer:

Dear Lord we thank you for this day and for Your Word. Pls help us to guard my words whenever we say something. Pls don’t let us want to do evil or waste our time doing wrong with wicked people. Don’t let us even taste the good things they offer.Thank You Lord for In Jesus Name we have prayed. Amen.

Thanks for joining today. Feel free to share your thoughts on the chapter.

Have a blessed evening 🙂

Proverbs 5 – Staying or Fleeing…

Good morning y’all. Happy Friday 🙂

Today we are studying chapter 5 of Proverbs.

This chapter suggests it’s for married people, warning against adultery but as a single person, I believe we can also learn from it.

Be blessed 🙂

Verses 3 – 8

“3 For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey,
    and her mouth is smoother than oil.
4 But in the end she is as bitter as poison,
    as dangerous as a double-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
    her steps lead straight to the grave.
6 For she cares nothing about the path to life.
    She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it.
7 So now, my sons, listen to me.
    Never stray from what I am about to say:
8 Stay away from her!
    Don’t go near the door of her house!” (NLT)

The description of the immoral woman given in verse 3 – 6 can be likened to sin in our lives. Sin is also sweet, so enticing but in the end, leads to death and destruction. That’s why we need to guard ourselves from sin.

As single people, the society we live in tells us its okay to sleep with someone you are not married to, you can hop from one person to another as long as you use protection! Well today’s reading tells us otherwise. Verse 8 urges us to stay away from sin (immoral woman).  Don’t play with sin if you don’t want to get burnt. Bible tells us to flee from all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Verse 15

“15 Drink water from your own well…” (Proverbs 5: 15a NLT)

For me, this talks about contentment. Let’s be satisfied with what we have and stop envying others. Learn to appreciate what God has given us. When we are thankful and appreciative, He will be eager to bless us the more

Verse 21 – 23

 “21 For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
    examining every path he takes.
22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
    they are ropes that catch and hold him.
23 He will die for lack of self-control;
    he will be lost because of his great foolishness”. (NLT)

 “21 – 23 Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make;
    he’s aware of every step you take.
The shadow of your sin will overtake you;
    you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark.
Death is the reward of an undisciplined life;
    your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end”. (MSG)

The Lord sees clearly all that we do. We might be able to hide our sins from man and get away with it successfully, but God sees it all. We can’t hide from Him. He is aware of every step we take.

If we don’t repent and turn away from our sins, it will hold us captive and eventually ruin us. Genesis 4: 7 says:

“You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”(NLT)

Self control and discipline is important. We have to learn to say No to anything that will lead us astray from God’s plan for us .

Proverbs 25:28 says:
A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls”. (NLT)

Lack of discipline and self control only leads to destruction.

The decisions we make today determines our tomorrow.

Prayer
Dear God thank You for today and for loving us enough to correct us. Pls help us live a disciplined and self controlled life so we can flee from sin and say no to anything that will derail us from fulfilling our purpose. Thank You Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thots on today’s chapter.
