Genesis 3

Good Morning y’all. Today we in chapter 3 of Genesis. This is where the 1st sin took place and where man lost the one 2 one fellowship with God.

I pray we will be blessed today and the Holy spirit will convict us of those areas of our lives we still need to work on. Amen.

Here we go πŸ™‚

The 1st mistake the woman made was she entertained the serpent/devil. She reasoned with him. Allowed him talk her out of what she knew to be true.

The best way to beat the devil at his game is to resist him at the onset. From the moment we notice him rearing his ugly head, we rebuke him and flee. Don’t try reasoning with the devil, it just won’t work. Don’t forget the devil also knows the bible. When Jesus was tempted, the devil was using the scriptures, but we know he was twisting it around to justify why Jesus should give in to the temptation. Thank God Jesus knew better and beat the devil at his game! James 4:7 tells us to humble ourselves before God, resist the devil and he will flee from us. Let’s make humbling and resisting a priority in our lives today.

If we entertain the devil, we are bound to fall into his trap. He will paint the picture so well, help us justify why what we are about to do is not a sin even though in our heart, we can hear that still small voice saying don’t do it. This is what happened to the woman. She fell for the serpents trap. V6 says she was convinced… The woman has been in that garden countless times, she has probably walked around the forbidden tree so many times but not once did the thought to eat of it cross her mind till the day she entertained and reasoned with the serpent. He planted a seed in her mind. All of a sudden this same tree she used to see day in day out became a thing of interest.

Let’s see what the scripture says in v6 after her discussion with the serpent.

1) She beheld that the tree was beautiful – The next time she saw the tree, It looked so beautiful to her cos she probably was thinking of how the devil explained the whole tree situation to her. And she probably was rationalising everything in her mind.

2) She saw it’s fruit looked delicious! – For the love of God there were so many other trees with fruit in the garden but all of a sudden it was the forbidden one that looked delicious. Chapter 2 verse 9a says there were all sorts of trees in the garden that produced delicious fruits. Devil is smart. He knew all he had to do was sow a seed in her mind and the deed is done.

3) She wanted the wisdom it was gonna give her – Oh my! Did God mention anything about the tree giving wisdom? Can you see how the devil twisted things.

Let me bring this home for us. The devil ain’t gonna come in some tall scary looking creature with horns and come talk to us….nah! he’s too smart for that. He knows we will recognise him immediately. So what does he do? He uses things around us in a subtle manner so much that, if we are not careful and alert, we will fall into his trap without realising it. The biggest game he plays is the mind game. Have you ever wondered why when someone tells you something about another person. The next time you see the person, what you’ve been told about them is what comes to mind. It shapes how you view them. That’s how powerful our thoughts are!!! Proverbs 4:23 tell us to “Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.” (CEVUS06 version).
We need to be careful the thoughts we allow take root in our hearts. The thoughts will come, devil will make suggestions but we have to be ready to combat his lies with the truth of God’s word.

Lets be real with ourselves. The devil doesn’t have any good intentions for us. He is a liar and the master deceiver. The greatest and baddest con artist ever. He is all out to steal kill and destroy. Devil never gives you anything for free!

Now what amazed me in this chapter was that her husband was with her. I ask myself why didn’t he stop her from eating the fruit. In chapter 2 he was the one God gave the command. Now in chapter 3 his help meet was about to break God’s command and our Man just stood their and watched and even ate of it when she offered. Was it that her beauty was too mesmerising that he couldn’t refuse her or does love make you do silly things? I can’t get my head round this bit. Anyone that can shed a bit more light on v6, I will greatly appreciate. πŸ™‚

Instantly their eyes were opened and they became ashamed. The aftermath of sin is not pleasurable!. They hid from God. Sin will separate you from God.

They died spiritually that day. They lost  the one to one fellowship they had with God. Was it worth it? Im sure if we ask Adam and Eve today, they will tell us it wasnt worth it. The price for sin is never worth the momentary pleasure the sin brings.

If you are going to indulge sin then be bold enough to take responsibility for your actions! God knew they had sin but he wanted them to report themselves to him. He came looking for them as usual and lo and behold they weren’t at the usual spot. So God asked where they were. The man’s response was yeah we hid cos we naked and God’s like hold up how do you know you were naked, have you eaten what I told you not to eat. Now my brother Adam refused to take responsibility and blamed it on his helpmeet. Can you imagine? Did she force him to eat it. He willingly ate the fruit plus he was there when she was about to eat the fruit anyway. God was probably like fair enough let’s ask the woman what happened. And she also didn’t take responsibility for her actions rather she blamed on the serpent.
We all have choices. You can choose to obey or not. God won’t force you, he will try as much as he can because He is a loving father to steer you in the right direction. But at the end of the day the choice is yours. Choose wisely!

There is always repercussions for sin. For some it might not be instant others it’s instant. For Adam and Eve theirs was instant. They were punished and banished from the garden and they became ashamed.

Oh but im glad the story didn’t end like this. God sent Jesus to reconcile us back to him. So there is hope for us today :). Praise God!

I will leave us with this quote I found. “Sin will take you where you didn’t plan to go. It will keep you longer than you planned to stay. And it will cost you more than you intended to pay” – James L Nicodem.

Thanks for joining today and pray you’ve been blessed. Feel free to like and leave comments.

***With God all things are possible***

Jude Chapter 1

Good morning y’all. Woke up this morning feeling a Lil bit discouraged 😦 just didn’t feel like blogging…guess it’s just one of those days plus ive got a cold and a nasty cough that I’m tryna shake off 😦 pls pray for me. Thank you

On a different note though, we have completed 6 books of the bible..yaaay πŸ™‚ . Only 60 more to go πŸ™‚ . We thank God for His grace and mercy that has seen us through. I pray He further strengthens and encourage us as we progress with the rest of the books.

Today we look at the book of Jude. The book like the others warns us about false teachers, gives us examples of people who rebelled against God and the punishment they received, gives us clear instructions on how to build up ouselves while waiting for our Lords return .

Be blessed πŸ™‚

1) We have to guard and cherish our faith. Make sure no one derails us or mislead us away from what has been entrusted to us.

2) It’s not okay to live immoral because we think we are under the dispensation of grace. God has clear instructions for us on how to live our lives as his children and we have to obey them. We can’t play with sin and expect to get away with it.
Romans 6:1-2 NLT says “Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?”

3) We should not be led or react to situations by our feelings or natural instincts. Doing this can only lead to one thing – destruction. Rather we should be led by God’s spirit.Β
Romans 8:6 NLT says “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
Remember our feelings come and go, they are not reliable.

4) There is only destruction for anyone that rebels against God, who denies his power and doesn’t believe in him

5) Don’t talk or act carelessly, especially about God for we will be judged for everything we say and do

6) Build each other up in our most holy faith by
a) praying in the power of the Holy Spirit
b) staying right at the centre of God’s love
c) showing mercy to all incl those whose faith is wavering
d) going after those who take the wrong way – gently bring them back to the fold
e) being tender with sinners but not soft on the sin.

P – Prayer
Dear Lord we thank you once again for today and for the privilege to know you and be called as your children. We pray you give us more and more mercy, peace, and love. We give all glory to you, who is able to keep us from falling away and will bring us with great joy into your glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to you who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are yours before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.
