1Peter Chapter 3

Good Morning y’all…Welcome to day 3 of our journey through 1 Peter.  I thank God for helping us make it this far.
Today we look at chapter 3. This chapter is full of instructions on how to conduct our selves as Wives, Husbands and as a believer in general. I noticed Peter devoted 6 verses to instructions for wives and only one verse for the husband!..I wonder why 🙂
I’m using the SOAP method today. For those who are joining us for the 1st time, pls refer to my welcome blog for more info on the SOAP method.

Here we go:)

S- Scriptures that stood out for me

1 Peter 3:4 CEVUS06 – Be beautiful in your heart by being gentle and quiet. This kind of beauty will last, and God considers it very special.

1 Peter 3: 9 CEVUS06 – Don’t be hateful and insult people just because they are hateful and insult you. Instead, treat everyone with kindness. You are God’s chosen ones, and he will bless you. The Scripture say,….

1 Peter 3:15 CEVUS06 – Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life. Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope.

O – Observations
O1) The way we live our lives as Christians carries a lot of power and influence. It can either win people over to God or draw them away from God. (Ponder on this for a while)
O2)  Focus on developing and cultivating inner beauty as opposed to external beauty. External beauty is good but it can only take us so far…God is giving us the key to everlasting beauty which is to “develop a gentle and quiet spirit”. Our beauty will shine through from the inside out when we do this. Taking care of the external should NEVER have more priority over taking care of the internal.
O3) Honor God…Google told me definition of honor is to “regard with great respect”. Let’s regard God with great respect and give him full control and ownership of our lives.
O4) Key to a happy life is to: stop saying cruel things, quit lying, do good instead of evil at all times and pursue peace.
O5) Always be ready to share your faith with others

A -Application
A1) consciously make an effort to ensure our life honors God today and won’t make others question/doubt our relationship with him. Especially with our speech and how we react to people and situation around us.
A2) Do good to someone today even if we are treated badly. Lets make an effort by God’s grace to not retaliate.
A3 ) Trust God to help us live and deal peaceably with all today. (I need this one a lot 🙂 especially at work which is where I spend most of my day during the week hence where I have the most impact.)

P- Prayer
Dear Lord thanks once again for choosing us and for the privilege to learn at your feet. Thanks for opening our eyes to see the standard that you require of us. Give us the grace today to begin to make changes where required. Help us to keep our tongues from lying, to do good to others even if we feel they don’t deserve it, to say kind words and pursue peace with all. Let our lives honor you thereby leading others to you. Thank you for entrusting us with the good news. We love you so very much. All this we ask and believe we have received In Jesus Name.

1 Peter Chapter 1

Today we start our journey through the book of 1 Peter.  The book was written by Peter one of the disciples of Jesus. I believe it was the same Peter who denied Jesus and on the day of Pentecost he had an encounter with the Holy Spirit and His life was transformed! Praise God!

My prayer is that as we read through this book, we will also have an encounter with the Holy Spirit and our lives will be transformed to be more and more like Christ. In Jesus Name

Reading chapter 1 this morning, below is the summary of the things I  gleaned from the chapter.

S-V2- God the father knew you and chose you long ago and His spirit has made you holy. As a result,  you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.  May God give you more and more grace and peace.

V 25- what the Lord has said will stand forever!

O- 1) GOD knew us and chose us long b4 we were even born. Jeremiah 1:5 confirms this

2) Trials come our way to make our faith stronger. We have to endure to the end and we will enjoy the reward – the salvation of my soul, the inheritance God has prepared for us – eternal life.

3) God is able to protect us to the very end.

4) we shouldn’t be controlled by our desires but rather we should be obedient and live holy as God who called us his holy

5) God paid a great price 4 our soul, in return we need to make sure our lives honor him

6) The Holy spirit is the one who helps us to be obedient, therefore we must yield ourselves and cooperate with him so we can be all that God wants us to be.

7) We need to love others even as God loves us.

8) God’s word is Final! His word never changes.

A- 1) I can’t live my life anyhow I choose cos God paid a great price 4 me.

2) As I go about my day today Holy spirit helping me I will make sure my actions and words honor God.

P- 1) Dear God thanks for choosing us even b4 I was conceived.  You have great plans for us

2) Help us yeild to your spirit as we go about out day today and help us honor you in all we do and say

I will conclude with v18-21 from the message bible:“Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God. It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. Even though it has only lately—at the end of the ages—become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you. It’s because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God.”
