Proverbs 17 – Refined by fire

Good day everyone and welcome to another day of blogging through the book of Proverbs 😊

Today we look at chapter 17 and I’ll be focusing on verse 3 😊

Just as gold and silver are refined in the fire, God uses the tests and trials of life to purify our hearts. Our struggles are like the refining fire—painful, yet purposeful—because the Lord uses them to strengthen and purify us. This reminds me of 1 Peter 1:7:

Through every trial, our faith is being tested, refined, and proven genuine. By the time we come out on the other side, we emerge purified, with stronger faith, deeper dependence on God, and greater trust in His plans.

Jeremiah 18:3–6 gives us another picture—that of the potter and clay. God is the potter, and we are the clay in His hands. When He finds flaws in us, He does not discard us; instead, He reshapes and remolds us into vessels that reflect His purpose and likeness:

Whatever challenge you may be facing right now, remember this: it is not wasted. God is using it for His glory and to shape you into a vessel He can use. He promises never to give you more than you can bear according to 1Cor 10:13:

So, don’t give up. Surrender your struggles to God and allow Him to use them as a refiner’s fire—to purify you, strengthen you, and mold you into His likeness. Nothing is wasted in God’s hands. He will turn it all for your good.

I’ll close with these words from James:

Take a moment to reflect: What trial are you currently walking through, and how might God be using it to refine you? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear your journey.

Thanks for joining me today 😊 and if this post encouraged you, share it with someone else who might need the reminder that nothing is wasted with God. Together, let’s keep trusting Him through the fire.

Job 6- When it hurts so bad….

Good evening y’all. Today we are studying Job chapter 6.

Be blessed 🙂

Job did a lot of complaining in this chapter. He complained about his pain, complained about God and about his friends. At this point, he is hurting so bad that he asks God to take his life. He felt he had nothing else to live for. All of his strength was gone and he just wanted some form of relief from the pain and suffering.

His friends that should have been consoling him, are the ones even adding more to his pain. They are accsuing him of having done something wrong hence why God was punishing him. But we know this is not the case and even if he had sinned, this was not the time for them to be saying i told you so…it was time for them to encourage him and help look for ways to make his pain bearable.

Matthew Henry Conscice commentary on Job 6: 14- 30 says :

In his prosperity Job formed great expectations from his friends, but now was disappointed. This he compares to the failing of brooks in summer. Those who rest their expectations on the creature, will find it fail when it should help them; whereas those who make God their confidence, have help in the time of need, Hebrews 4:16. Those who make gold their hope, sooner or later will be ashamed of it, and of their confidence in it. It is our wisdom to cease from man. Let us put all our confidence in the Rock of ages, not in broken reeds; in the Fountain of life, not in broken cisterns. The application is very close; “for now ye are nothing.” It were well for us, if we had always such convictions of the vanity of the creature, as we have had, or shall have, on a sick-bed, a death-bed, or in trouble of conscience. Job upbraids his friends with their hard usage. Though in want, he desired no more from them than a good look and a good word. It often happens that, even when we expect little from man, we have less; but from God, even when we expect much, we have more. Though Job differed from them, yet he was ready to yield as soon as it was made to appear that he was in error. Though Job had been in fault, yet they ought not to have given him such hard usage. His righteousness he holds fast, and will not let it go. He felt that there had not been such iniquity in him as they supposed. But it is best to commit our characters to Him who keeps our souls; in the great day every upright believer shall have praise of God”. (http://www.christnotes.org/commentary.php?com=mhc&b=18&c=6)

I pray for as many that are going through one trial or the other, that the God of comfort will comfort and encourage you. That His grace will be sufficient for you and His love will overwhelm you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thoughts on the chapter.

Stay blessed
