Proverbs 4 – Legacy

Good day everyone and welcome to another day of blogging through the bible

Today we look at Proverbs chapter 4.

So much to unpack in this chapter but I felt strongly the Holy Spirit wanted me to focus on the 1st 4 verses for today and I pray it blesses you all.

Just like Solomon was pleading to his child to heed his words and pay attention to his instructions and seek for wisdom like his life depends on it, so does God expect us to introduce our children to an understanding of Him and pass on to them the knowledge of him we have gained and encourage them to seek wisdom. Solomon’s father passed the knowledge to him and now he is urging his son to receive the same knowledge and live by them.

Legacy is important to God. Numerous times in the bible we see mention of generational transfer of the knowledge of God. In Deuteronomy 6:7-9, we see Moses admonishing the children of Isreal to write down Gods law and keep reciting them to their children

This scripture here in Deuteronomy is a strategy for parenting our children in the way of the Lord. We have a responsibility as parents to educate our children regarding their identity in Christ, principles for living as followers of God, and practices for deepening their relationship with God…etc. We are to serve as role models by exemplifying wisdom and integrity in our actions.

In Genesis 18:19, God said of Abraham that He knows he will teach his children about Him.

We see a similar message in 2 Timothy 1:5 where Paul mentioned that he could see in Timothy the same faith that first existed in his grandmother and then in his mother in him.

What legacy are you living for your children?

My desire and prayer for us today is that our children whether biological or those we have influence over will see God through us and desire to know Him personally, and that our lives/actions will encourage, not hinder, the next generation from coming to Christ in Jesus name. Amen

Proverbs 9 – The call of Wisdom

Good evening y’all. Today we are studying chapter 9 of proverbs.

Be blessed 🙂

Verses 1 – 6
“Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table. She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.” (NLT)

Wisdom is offering an open invitation to all. There is no excuse as wisdom is available to all. It’s left for us to choose to heed it’s call. If we seek for it diligently, we will find it.

If we want to live, we need to give up our  foolish ways. We need to let understanding guide our life. Learn to lean on God and not our own understanding. Seek God’s will in everything we do.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 says :
“Trust in the lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take”. (NLT)

Verse 13 – 18
“The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it. She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city. She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!” But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave”. (NLT)

“Then there’s this other woman, Madame Whore— brazen, empty-headed, frivolous. She sits on the front porch of her house on Main Street, And as people walk by minding their own business, calls out, “Are you confused about life, don’t know what’s going on? Steal off with me, I’ll show you a good time! No one will ever know—I’ll give you the time of your life.” But they don’t know about all the skeletons in her closet, that all her guests end up in hell”. (MSG)

Stolen waters tastes Good….this is the deceit of sin. It’s pleasurable to the flesh but detrimental to our spirit. The flesh enjoys it but the end result is undesirable.  Let’s be wise in our dealings so we don’t fall prey to sin.

I share below Matthew Henry’s commentary on these verses.

“How diligent the tempter is, to seduce unwary souls into sin! Carnal, sensual pleasure, stupifies conscience, and puts out the sparks of conviction. This tempter has no solid reason to offer; and where she gets dominion in a soul, all knowledge of holy things is lost and forgotten. She is very violent and pressing. We need to seek and pray for true wisdom, for Satan has many ways to withdraw our souls from Christ. Not only worldly lusts and abandoned seducers prove fatal to the souls of men; but false teachers, with doctrines that flatter pride and give liberty to lusts, destroy thousands. They especially draw off such as have received only partial serious impressions. The depths of Satan are depths of hell; and sin, without remorse, is ruin, ruin without remedy. Solomon shows the hook; those that believe him, will not meddle with the bait. Behold the wretched, empty, unsatisfying, deceitful, and stolen pleasure sin proposes; and may our souls be so desirous of the everlasting enjoyment of Christ, that on earth we may live to him, daily by faith, and ere long to be with hin glory” (Matthew Henry Concise commentary, Proverbs 9)

I pray we all heed the call of wisdom.

Thanks for joining today. Pls feel free to share your thoughts on the chapter.

Have a blessed evening 🙂
